Coming Soon: Prime Meats
465 Court St., at Luquer St., Carroll Gardens; (718) 254-0327
New York magazine describes Prime Meats, the forthcoming restaurant from the owners of Frankies 457 Sputino, as “a tribute to great restaurants of the past, and a bid for modern-day destination status. The bar room will open first, followed by an adjacent dining room, an upstairs speakeasy, and a garden.” Eater adds that the space will also encompass “small retail booth around the corner. The dining room and storefront, still under construction now, should be ready to go in the next month… The tap room is now open on the weekends and can be accessed for the time being through Frankies 457.”

Coming Soon: Shwarma
Chowhound wetwax reports: “Just a heads-up that the tiny space on 16th St and PPW (formerly Sariwa and the 16th St Gourmet) is about to reopen as ‘Shawarma.’ The owners are from Egypt and very friendly — definitely will have the usual Middle Eastern fare, and possibly some special regional dishes (Um Ali, maybe?)”

A New Restaurant for Court Street?
Pardon Me For Asking noticed “signs of life at former restaurant Caffé Carciofo at 248 Court Street. Currently, a restaurant/ wine liquor license has been applied for by a certain ‘Bread and Butter Development Group, LLC’. Does anyone know anything more?”

After the jump: Moim‘s recession special, Red Hook’s Home/Made, new Calexico signage, Brooklyn’s best hot wings, table service at Park Slope’s Get Fresh, and some love for the Lovin’ Cup Cafe

Moim‘s Recession Special
Chowhound famdoc says, “Moim (Garfield Pl. and Seventh Ave., ‘Modern Korean’) has a $25 prix-fixe dinner special on Tuesday and Wednesday nights only. Choice of 3 apps (including the from the Korean tapa menu), 3 mains (including Bi Bim Bop) and 3 drinks (including a tall glass of Hite, Korean lager). Good deal, good food, nice joint, good service.”

Red Hook Furniture Shop Goes Foodie
293 Van Brunt Street (between King & Pioneer), Red Hook; (347) 223-4135
“The owners of Tini are converting their furniture shop Home/Made into a furniture-shop-cum-restaurant, and they joke that someone will be able to buy your chair out from under you. (Hopefully they’ll let you finish your meal first?) There’s already a kitchen in situ and a garden in back, so this new spot—right across from LeNell’s ‘Wine + Likker’—should be open within the next couple of weeks.” [Shecky’s]

Quick Bites
A Brooklyn Life notes that Calexico has replaced the old Schnack signage… Yelpers rate the best hot wings in Brooklyn… The New York Times reports that the Park Slope takeout spot Get Fresh Table and Market has started serving in-house breakfast, lunch and brunch, and will start serving dinner on January 16… The Lovin’ Cup Cafe officially opened on Monday at 93 North 6th Street in Williamsburg, serving “honest American food” until 4a.m., an extensive bourbon selection, and a weekend “Recession Brunch,” with every item on the menu priced at $6, including their signature bourbon French toast.

  1. DIBS, yes. Unfortunately, they’re still empty. Some wooden planks were up for a short time covering all of the entrances but they’re back down and they all look like they did when they were abandoned. Not sure who would want to open a business in that jinxed location, especially these days.

cobblehiller, I believe people have said very good things about Frankie’s. Have you been there?

  2. At Moim, I even gave the place the benefit of the doubt (rather than simply registering a complaint with the credit card company), contacting Moim by phone and even dropping by for another meal during which they could correct their mistake. They brazenly refused to take any action to redress the double billing. Shameful. Their food doesn’t taste very good anymore. I won’t be back. Watch your pockets.

  3. Watch out for Moim’s recession special. If they do for you what they did for me, they’ll charge your credit card twice for the same meal and then obstruct any correction to the account. A must to avoid!
