Coming Soon: Prime Meats
465 Court St., at Luquer St., Carroll Gardens; (718) 254-0327
New York magazine describes Prime Meats, the forthcoming restaurant from the owners of Frankies 457 Sputino, as “a tribute to great restaurants of the past, and a bid for modern-day destination status. The bar room will open first, followed by an adjacent dining room, an upstairs speakeasy, and a garden.” Eater adds that the space will also encompass “small retail booth around the corner. The dining room and storefront, still under construction now, should be ready to go in the next month… The tap room is now open on the weekends and can be accessed for the time being through Frankies 457.”
Coming Soon: Shwarma
Chowhound wetwax reports: “Just a heads-up that the tiny space on 16th St and PPW (formerly Sariwa and the 16th St Gourmet) is about to reopen as ‘Shawarma.’ The owners are from Egypt and very friendly — definitely will have the usual Middle Eastern fare, and possibly some special regional dishes (Um Ali, maybe?)”
A New Restaurant for Court Street?
Pardon Me For Asking noticed “signs of life at former restaurant Caffé Carciofo at 248 Court Street. Currently, a restaurant/ wine liquor license has been applied for by a certain ‘Bread and Butter Development Group, LLC’. Does anyone know anything more?”
After the jump: Moim‘s recession special, Red Hook’s Home/Made, new Calexico signage, Brooklyn’s best hot wings, table service at Park Slope’s Get Fresh, and some love for the Lovin’ Cup Cafe…
Moim‘s Recession Special
Chowhound famdoc says, “Moim (Garfield Pl. and Seventh Ave., ‘Modern Korean’) has a $25 prix-fixe dinner special on Tuesday and Wednesday nights only. Choice of 3 apps (including the from the Korean tapa menu), 3 mains (including Bi Bim Bop) and 3 drinks (including a tall glass of Hite, Korean lager). Good deal, good food, nice joint, good service.”
Red Hook Furniture Shop Goes Foodie
293 Van Brunt Street (between King & Pioneer), Red Hook; (347) 223-4135
“The owners of Tini are converting their furniture shop Home/Made into a furniture-shop-cum-restaurant, and they joke that someone will be able to buy your chair out from under you. (Hopefully they’ll let you finish your meal first?) There’s already a kitchen in situ and a garden in back, so this new spot—right across from LeNell’s ‘Wine + Likker’—should be open within the next couple of weeks.” [Shecky’s]
Quick Bites
A Brooklyn Life notes that Calexico has replaced the old Schnack signage… Yelpers rate the best hot wings in Brooklyn… The New York Times reports that the Park Slope takeout spot Get Fresh Table and Market has started serving in-house breakfast, lunch and brunch, and will start serving dinner on January 16… The Lovin’ Cup Cafe officially opened on Monday at 93 North 6th Street in Williamsburg, serving “honest American food” until 4a.m., an extensive bourbon selection, and a weekend “Recession Brunch,” with every item on the menu priced at $6, including their signature bourbon French toast.
Sounds great! I prefer they overestimate (rather than underestimate) their wait times. I love the look of the place.
the old wine bar on Henry is becoming a new wine bar (called “)the wine bar”. run as a joint venture btw cranberry’s and henry’s end. so hopefully….
blue pig/oven/etc all still empty.
They definitely over-estimate the wait times. I’ve been told 45 minutes, and it turns out to be 25, etc.
i went to both frankies and prime meats this past weekend. there was an hour wait for frankies but they had the prime meats bar open for waiting – so had a drink in there for the hour that ended up only being 15 min. you access it through the frankies garden in the back – then through the new prime meats kitchen (they escort you).
that’s a good shot of the bar pictured here, and behind where the photographer is standing are a bunch of other tables as well. almost all of the tables were full, which just goes to show how popular frankies is. the menu had a bunch of absinthe mixed drinks that i was going to try if my wait didnt get cut short (i actually was disappointed that my table was up – i wanted to stay). they had a few beers on tap as well but i don’t remember what they were. i’ll definitely be checking this place out again when they open.
Thanks PPSer,
I’m usually a cash person anyway, but thanks for the heads up!
cobblehiller, thanks for the recommendation. It’s now at the top of my list of places to try.
11217: Just double check your credit card statements after you’ve gone to Moim. I certainly can’t dispute your experiences. We once had good things to say about Moim as well.
“cobblehiller, I believe people have said very good things about Frankie’s. Have you been there?”
Yes, I’ve been there probably half a dozen times. I love it – great food – wonderful really! Great garden and the ‘carriage house’ out back is terrific for a party.
My only complaint is that on one occasion – when I brought some very important friends of mine for dinner – the service was maddeningly slow. That said, it was Saturday night around 7:30 – 8 pm – maximum peak busy.
If you go and there is a wait – very nicely ask to put your name & cell phone number on the list and then go to the nice little bar directly across the street and have a drink – they will call you when your table is ready. Works out very nicely.
I’m very surprised to hear of your experience at Moim, PPSer considering how lovely the owners are. I mean…like some of the most friendly business owners in Park Slope from my experience. This is the first even remotely negative experience I’ve heard.
I’ve taken MANY Korean born friends there, and every single one has said it’s some of the best Korean food they’ve had in the city, and in fact have all been back separately from me (even though they all live in Manhattan).
I think the food is excellent, the service great, the decor unique and I go there often.
It’s one of Park Slope’s best kept secrets.
