basil-theif-0709.jpgThis one might not make the police blotter reports but a basil thief is upsetting the equilibrium on one block of Carroll Gardens. According to Lost City, someone has been stealing basil from a planter box in the front yard of a house on President, causing multi-generational distress: “The children are quite disturbed by your actions. And so are the adults,” reads the postscript to a sign telling the thief to “Stop taking our basil!” Any word on whether the culprit has been apprehended yet?

  1. “Leave” Bay ridge alone!

I heard the basil was very high end. It was tony basil (as opposed to Toni Basil, who sang Mickey in the ’80s).

  2. seems these signs would just invite other kids to steal on purpose.

ultimate passive aggressive move i saw the other week: in park slope on berkeley, someone created a tiny picket-type sign (toothpick with notecard on it basically), and stuck it into a dog-turd on the sidewalk, telling the person who left it to start cleaning up.

  3. My plants all got damaged by the most recent storms. You might say some of it was tarragon with the wind.

I can’t seem to stop. Someone needs to sumac me upside the head.
