gage-tollner-interior-0309.jpgWe were right with our last rumor about the future of the Gage & Tollner space at 374 Fulton Street so we’ll plow ahead with this next unconfirmed dispatch: We’re hearing that the prospective tenant for the historic eatery is a fast food chain of some sort. No names yet, but we’re told that it’s a company that currently does not have a presence in the city. Because the interior is landmarked, the deal is contingent upon LPC approval. Sounds like a very bad idea to us. Anyone care to guess what chain it is? Quelle horreur!

  1. Maybe Panera Bread — very popular in the burbs. Not bad sandwiches/salads/soups and baked goods/breads. Free Wi-Fi. Don’t think there are any in the city now. Of course there is always the Brooklyn customer service factor with franchises (like Target). Who knows?

  2. I’m trying to start the rumor the Marco Polo guys will re-open Gage and Tollner.

If we all spread the rumor it might create enough buzz to entice them to really do it…

    just a thought…

  3. Whoever owns the Lundy’s name ought to try and recoop their investment (after running their last two places into the ground) and open here – it combines the perfect tourist spot (w/lots of new hotels nearby) with the businessmans/lawyers lunch spot.
