The blog Wyckoff Heights spotted a Department of Buildings application to convert the Ridgewood Theater at 55-27 Myrtle Avenue into a residential development. The proposed work looks to build out ground-floor retail space, add a building addition for a total of 44,500 square feet, and carve out 40 residential units. (It doesn’t look like We Love Ridgewood Theater will get a performance space out of it.) Here are the plans, straight from the DOB: “Proposed conversion of exist movie theater into mixed use commercial/residential building, including construction of new floors within existing shell & minor vertical enlargement. NB application is filed due to extend of the work, however existing 3 story entry portion & all existing walls & existing foundations at theater portion will remain.” The architect on the project is Nataliya Donskoy, a Robert Scarano disciple whose work we’ve blogged about before. The LPC landmarked the theater facade in 2010, but we can’t wait to see what that addition’s going to look like.
The theater entered contract over the summer, priced at $7,000,000. A Brooklyn-based developer — public records led us to Bushburg Properties — paid $6,950,000. The theater’s rundown interior is still full of gorgeous Edwardian details, it’s unlikely many of those details will survive the interior renovation.
