Two whole years ago we reported that a hotel had been proposed, but not approved, for the site at 17 Seabring Street in Red Hook. At the time, the developer told us that it would be a “boutique hotel” but DOB permits and the photo above reveal this be something substantially less sexy: A Quality Inn. How do you think this will do in this location?

  1. Definitely for the leaving-on-an-early-cruise market–a brand name that people will feel comfortable with, no real frills or amenities because no long term guests, relatively inexpensive and can advertise free shuttles to cruise ships as opposed to taxi rides with luggage. Makes sense.

And otherwise, will fill with some visiting family members of Brooklynites.

  2. I live in the hood and I was surprised to see they were building this. But thinking about it, many tourists don’t take the subway. And this is just a quick car service ride to downtown Manhattan through the Battery Tunnel. Would work for business travelers whose budgets have been cut I’m guessing. And then there’s also the Cruise Ships. I’m sure they’re thinking they’ll get people staying there who are traveling from farther distances to take a cruise and need to arrive early or stay a day or so before they depart.

  5. I can only see this being useful to touring rock bands, because they usually can’t afford regular hotels (many guys I know stay in NJ) and they need an easy place to park.
Tourists… not so much, due to the lack of trains.

  6. Don’t you think that motels in locations like this are going to turn into a very different business ventures than housing folks that are sightseeing?

  7. Super convenient to Battery Tunnel, so it must be for driving guests needing quick access to Manhattan and the BQE. There is already a similar hotel a couple of blocks away that seems to be doing OK.
