On the Prison Ship Jersey with David Swain
The Fort Greene Park Conservancy is delighted to offer this free two-part series on June 10 and 11 exploring Fort Greene Park’s Revolutionary War roots featuring historian David Swain, editor of the recently published memoir Recollections of Life on the Prison Ship Jersey, by prison ship survivor Thomas Dring. The series will include a reading by David Swain at Greenlight Bookstore of selected excerpts from Recollections of Life on the Prison Ship Jersey, and a discussion led by Fort Greene Park Conservancy Board Member, Norman Ryan. The second part of the series will include an informative walking tour of Fort Greene Park and the Prison Ship Martyrs Monument along with historical commentary and readings. First part: Friday, 7:30, Greenlight Bookstore. Second part: Saturday, 1pm, Visitors Center, Ft. Greene Park.

 

PS 11 Spring Fest

Brooklyn Flea + Smorgasburg
On Saturday, the Flea is held at 176 Lafayette Ave. (between Clermont + Vanderbilt Avenues) in Fort Greene. On Sunday, the Flea will be at 27 North 6th Street (between Kent Avenue + East River). Check out hundreds of clothes, antique and food vendors. And on Saturday it’s the all-food market Smorgasburg, at the same Williamsburg location. Saturday & Sunday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Free.

Seeing the River Wild
Watch scientists use a 20-foot seining net to catch and release fish and other remarkable East River creatures. Participate in a site-specific scavenger hunt and play a game of Finding Niches in between hauls. 10:00 – 10:45 am and 10:45 – 11:30 am, Main Street, beach under the Manhattan Bridge.
