I have sure noticed the obesity problem with the strikers. Greedy, ungrateful, fat, and a massive sense of entitlement. With assets of only 3.6 million, they’ll be bankrupt by tomorrow. Serves ’em right.
What a mess. Anybody but me notice how fat the striking subway workers are? Maybe if the MTA had offered them some donut coupons, they wouldn’t have striked.
I just walked over the bridge this morning and I can tell you that it was too crowded to even try to ride a bike. Most bikers were walking theirs. Remember, pedestrians have the right of way, especially when outnumbered.
HEADING TO THE AIRPORT FROM CARROLL GARDENS, YOU NEED TO GET ON THE BQE AT TILLARY STREET OR AFTER (ITS HOV 4 AFTER 5AM BETWEEN THE START OF THE GOWANUS EXPRESSWAY AND THE MANHATTAN BRIDGE. I WOULD LEAVE AT 4AM, BUT YOU’LL STILLL HAVE TRAFFIC IF THE STRIKE IS ONGOING. TOOK ME 2O MINUTES (BY CAR)JUST TO GET FROM SMITH AND ATLANTIC TO THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE AT 4:20AM! I DO THE COMMUTE EVERY DAY, NORMALLY TAKES 4 MINUTES.
Those on bikes should dismount and walk their bikes across the bridge. It is a small imposition to cyclists, considering the impositions on other forms of travel. To complain about pedestrians is pushing it.
My first walk over the Manhattan Bridge — I much prefer the Brooklyn Bridge — that sad little concrete walkway is pretty gross. Nice views of the buildings in DUMBO though — what’s the one with the tennis court on the roof?
Annie— If you’ve got an 8 am flight fewer than 5 days before Christmas out of any of the 3 airports, you should leave @ 5 am anyway– strike or no strike. I had a 7 am flight 3 days before Christmas not long ago and I left @ 4:30, thinking that was plenty of time– and it was clear sailing until the AIRPORT. Tons of car/taxi traffic, and then tons of people being shepherded this way and that. I was held up @ security with tons of other people, barely made it as the doors closed on the plane, and then we still were delayed on the runway for an hour.
Your biggest foe in terms of time is the airport itself (security and more security this time of year). It’s a pain in the %^**$, but it’s true. And assume that the traffic woes will add about 15-20% time crunch to that.
I was on the brooklyn bridge at 7:30 this morning and the pedestrians were all walking on the right in the bike lane like it was a street, totally ignoring the signs. The left side of the bridge was almost empty, but not empty enough to actually ride in. I rode on the yellow line but at about the speed of the walkers. I’m not one of those rapid cyclistst that yell at pedestrians every chance they get, but jeesh, move over to your side where it’s empty. I’m hoping the ride home will be better since walking on the right will put them in the right spot.

To the person going to LGA: leave at 5am OR SOONER. If you wait until 6 you will be sorry.
