Bushwick Avenue from Myrtle down to Gates where we turned off was full of downed trees.
LOL, Pete.
The tornado went over me as I sat nursing my (very weak yet overpriced) iced tea on Bergen between Flatbush and 5th. There was a freight train noise for about 3 seconds, accompanied by whirling, white sheets of rain. Then my ears popped. Had I half a brain, I would have gotten away from the windows.
Two notable sights: the metal Pintchik sign on Bergen was ripped off and crumpled up. And on Pacific between Nevins and Bond, the top of a tree was stripped and sat vertically on top of a car, as if a tree were growing out of the car.
leaps, those pictures are fabulous. They really capture that typical greenish cast of a tornado.
I was on my bike, riding south on Henry Street and I ran right into it. I could see the wall of rain a block from me as I approached. Insanity.
When I got home, drenched, I saw a massive tree had been broken in the yard behind us. Took down part of a fire escape, broke windows, left wreckage scattered across 3 yards….
Wild.
yes, Pete, that must be it.
I knew it was supposed to rain but did anyone expect this? Am I just asleep at the wheel not watching the weather on the news more intently? We know @ hurricanes a week in advance but tornadoes are a surprise?
tornados are for trailer parks. PS must be a trailer park.
Myplace, I think you owe your pooch a steak dinner and a spot on the bed tonight!
nobody thinks the tornado was confined to park slope. but this part of brooklyn was certainly hit hard, hence multiple mentions by tv channels and the nytimes. in fact, front page photo on nyt.com is of the skyline of PS.
We were walking our dog trying to take him out before the rainstorm came and he started to freak out and pulled us back inside. 5 minutes later. BLAMMO. The barkyards between Park Place and Sterling and 5th and 6th are a disaster. Fences ripped up trees down. Some huge tree resting against the telephone(?) wires.
