It may not be totally representative since Facebook users tend to skew younger, but membership in the pro-bike lane group is dominating that in the anti-bike lane camp. More details on Streetsblog.

  1. “(2) whatever pedestrians do is unimpeachable because they are “vulnerable” not that they do anything wrong”

and who/when did we decide that people on bikes weren’t vulnerable?
do you all really think if a bike hits a pedestrian they won’t be in as bad, if not worse shape?

  2. tybur6 I’m thinking of instances like union street–there’s a segregated bike lane up to 4th ave but then what happens? Bikes have to merge into the “car” lane, but there isnt enough room. This kind of traffic flow is annoying to cars and dangerous to bikers, and Union isnt the only street like that…

  3. That sounds about right, DH… (1) cars and their shenanigans are untouchable, (2) whatever pedestrians do is unimpeachable because they are “vulnerable” not that they do anything wrong, and (3) some assholes are bikers so all bikers are assholes.

  4. “yup, them. my beef isn’t with bikers. i bike for cryin out loud. it’s with the assinine bike lane RIGHT off the park and the craziness it’s created”

so let me see if i follow your logic:

you don’t like the bike lane because it takes away one lane from cars and doesn’t allow cars to illegally double park without impeding the flow of traffic.

So the natural solution is to punish the people on bikes rather than the people who are breaking traffic laws.

  5. Good.

    I hate cars.

I moved to a walkable city to walk and ride a bike not cater to the whiny drivers.

One bike lane and all you can do is complain. Pathetic life you must lead to not be able to get by on the 2 driving lanes and one parked lane you now have.
