I don’t consider it any of my business how much a sports star gets paid. They do not get paid by ‘us’ or ‘the country’, they get paid by their respective team owners and sponsors.
benson,
Are you here this morning? Sorry I didn’t get a chance to reply to your pitiful story of embarrassing yourself on the
Bishop Kearney stage, but I had some actual work to do yesterday and I didn’t see it til late. I did not see (or don’t remember) the performance of The Apple Tree, so you can rest assured that I did not witness your humiliation. All that just to get a Kearney chick!
“it’s just your constant belittling of other peoples opinions that get on my nerves.”
Yeah, right. Because I spend the entire day doing just that.
Tybur, I agree with you. I think Obama and Michelle are excellent role models. It would just be nice for them to be the norm, not the exception. Someday… it is a very slow process, but we’ve got a black president and first lady, things do change.
Lech, just called my mechanics and asked what body shop they use. He said he’s been working with the one below for years and would highly recommend them. I trust my mechanic (who is also my friend).

You can tell him Igor and Vladimir referred you from Unitek Shop on West 15th. He’ll know exactly who they are.
BTW, if it just a mirror that you want fixed/Replaced, I might be able to do that for you myself. Email me if you want to discuss.
Rob (and MMM) — I actually think Obama and Missus Obama are doing a lot to raise the profile of ‘people of color.’ The last time we had a really prominent lawyer who was a black woman… well, that was Clair Huxtable.
Creating role models is a VERY slow process. There aren’t that many black college professors (and even fewer Hispanic) because not many have worked their way through the system yet. Obviously, there’s a bit of a Catch 22 built in here. But each time there is a role model, there are more young people to see them! (This is the general idea of affirmative action — to accelerate this process a bit. Though, I’m hardly a defender of that approach.)
It’s all about role models. If there were no white men running corporations, it would be conceivable that the idea that I can run a corporation too would never enter my head. That’s how it works. (By the way, I’m glad I don’t run a corporation!)
It’s wrong to say sports stars are not role models. AND they are *especially* strong role models if they are the ONLY image of success a young black male sees!
It’s also wrong to say “they should get paid an amount that is commensurate to the revenue their image generates” without questioning that mechanism in the first place. Isn’t it sad that LeBron James’ image is generating more revenue than a small nation… but provides almost NOTHING for society. I love me some Nikes (though they don’t make that many wide widths… ), I’m not anti-consumerist marxist whatever… I’m just saying if VALUES are unchecked, then we’re all going down in a blaze of glory. Wait. No. What’s the opposite of a blaze of glory?
i dont give a crap if you respond, when did i even say that? it’s just your constant belittling of other peoples opinions that get on my nerves. and honestly i dont give a crap about the black community. or the white community. or any other community for that matter. why would I? i have no DNA invested in this stank ass planet.
Lech, if the door internal structure is still good, they’ll repair the outer panel. if the internal structure is bent, etc, the whole door would be replaced. if new or newer car, the repair will be 2k or over cause just the freaking paint & corresponding clear coat is expensive (vs. the old flat flat paint on the older cars, the newer car paint is expensive)
