Brooklyn’s immigrant communities are on high alert after a group of plainclothes law enforcement officers attempted to raid two apartments in Fort Greene and Red Hook Wednesday.
Sunset Park locals want to rezone the waterfront for green energy jobs and revise the City Charter to allow community-led rezonings.
The question was asked by both residents and politicians at a City Council public hearing around Industry City's proposal to rezone.
Local pol Carlos Menchaca said he asked the developers to pull the rezoning application because they had not yet fulfilled their promises to the community.
One short wall of the 1886 red brick structure preservationists tried to save was still standing in late October.
The long-in-the-works plan seeks to rezone the industrial property to allow for hotels and additional space for retail and offices.
The plan to close Rikers and build new jails in Brooklyn and beyond is a scheme to enrich developers, said Sunset Park Councilman Carlos Menchaca.
