Rental of the Day: 181 Washington Park
Fort Greene’s 181 Washington Park is on the rental market, asking $12,000 $11,000/month. Its back story: The home was a HOTD in 2006, when it was listed for a staggering $3.995 million; saw a price chop; and finally sold for $3,037,500 in 2007. It’s a beautifully restored four-story house on a prime Fort Greene block….

Update: as a commenter pointed out, the rent was reduced just yesterday from $12,000 to $11,000. Make a difference?

Asking almost four million dollars for an old house in a census tract where the median income is barely above the poverty line? That is just immoral.
I’m sorry…I just have to quote McKenzie’s “quasi-blight” comment again…
Quasi-blight?! Well, thanks…I’ve that stuck in my head for a while.
Honestly! Hhhhhhh…
Sorry, but Fort Greene may not be East 63rd Street…still…”quasi-blight”?
How about “quasi-gentrified”? Frankly, it’s gentrified. there’s no real “quasi-” about it. I’m not sure if you have spend any real time in Fort Greene lately.
Thanks McKenzie for the vote of confidence! Please rehab me.
Anyway, I’m not sure why the description above notes it as a four-story house. It’s a five-story house with the mansard roof (which has a very high ceiling too!). The block is very quiet. It’s gets noisy when there’s a concert.
It’s not just “beautifully restored”…you can’t even imagine (or maybe you can) the level of work that went into it. L did a top notch job on her house. I think the ground floor powder room alone cost more than our entire renovation years ago. Okay…I’m exaggerating…but not much!
We miss L in the neighborhood but she does come back to visit.
nice house, but speaking from my inner-boro perspective, Fort Greene is still a quasi-blight district.
Much improved architecturally, yes, but many of the residents are still unrehabilitated.
*rob* I remember that ad and I’m all for it… still think it looks weird here. and do the 70 yr olds have to ask their grandkids to pick up those chairs and move them out of the way every time they want to play? you need to get adopted by one of them and mario kart them into the grave for your own small fortune.
HA nice Wii spotting! hahahaha. i dont think it’s really out of place, the nintendo Wii was marketed as a family entertainment system for all ages… they even had ads of 70 year olds playing the Wii in their commecials. they probably shot the video in this place!
*rob*
does the flatscreen (+ Wii!) in the living room look more than a little out of place to everyone else? how about the fact that it’s a 90 degree head turn for the chairs in front of it??
Good heavens, this is over the top. Are they renting it furnished?
We’re on that block but further toward Dekalb and I’m always struck by just how quiet it is. There’s lots of foot traffic but the cars are fairly minimal.
