There was some talk of this Park Slope rental on Thursday’s Rental of the Day, and we think this “Gilded Age mansion” mostly speaks for itself. Intricate, dark wood details throughout, a pretty incredible looking (six-foot wide!) stairway, even stained glass in the kitchen and bathroom windows. Most apartments don’t come like this one. This 7,000-square-foot four bedroom at 108 8th Avenue is going for $18,000 a month.

  1. This house had been on the market since January of 2006, originally at $25K and then at $20K. It finally rented to someone (I guess on a short-term basis – another film shoot, perhaps?), and now it’s back. The owners (PC and CB) haven’t lived there in years.

  2. >but all of that wood is absurd and overkill. id feel like a termite if i lived there.

Right on Rob, an absolutely horribly oppressive place. The bedroom is the only tolerable space shown. And that small kitchen (for so grand a house) has a **spiral stair** taking up 1/2 the space?!! What idiot architect designed that?

  3. I don’t get the floor plan. They indicate that the kitchen is on the 3rd floor? Does this mean that the garden floor (and the garden presumably) is spoken for by an additional tenant? Seems to me that 18k per month is a hell of a lot of coin for a shared Brownstone in the Slope.

Could be wrong. It has happened before 😉

And Rob, I concur. Feels a bit like one has stepped INSIDE of a Terra Cotta tile, or a violin lit from within. Too too much peachy wood-ness.

  4. 11217, you are probably right as far as the demographics. I don’t think that even this absolutely magnificent house is worth that much: it’s a much smaller market than the equivalent in Manhattan, and there are more than OK options around $6-8,000/month for a short-term need. It’s a bit tricky, as a trophy apartment you can rent in Park Slope.
