This one-bedroom brownstone rental at 298 St. James Place in Clinton Hill is looking pretty good to us. There are nice original details, large windows and a good-sized (albeit not particularly charming) kitchen. And the price is definitely fair at $1,700 a month. Looks pretty good actually. Right around the corner from the C train (listings that tout their proximity to the subway and then wind up being 8 blocks away from the nearest subway, and then that subway is the G train, are one of my pet peeves), decently-sized rooms, decorative fireplace. The kitchen isn’t ideal (small and kinda fugly) but how many apartment kitchens are?
I rented a slightly smaller place in an older elevator building in Manhattan for this same price, I had more windows, and the kitchen was nicer. $1,700 is the going rate for Atlantic Avenue now? Jesus.

Nomi, I think the broker just multiplied 20×40 and forgot to take out the stairwell and landing space.
The listing does oddly say two rooms, not three.
Not sure how there can be 800 feet here. Looks like a decent sized living room (except for having to fit a dining table in there too…) and a decent sized bedroom, but still, can’t see it being more than about 600-650 feet.

Emily- the tag on this is wrong. It should be Clinton Hill, not Williamsburg.
I would think that rentals between Fulton and Atlantic would be a little less than north of Fulton, but maybe that’s reflected in this price.
