  1. It did not seem to me that Brownnoser was the problem. He did seem irritable and frustrated with the squabbling, but many of us were, I suspect. But now is he banned or not? This is like a soap opera!

  2. The Douglass St. house is pretty cool.
    We just saw it today. It’s nice that it’s in original condition and for this neighborhood we’ve had a hard time finding a house under a million. The neighbor next door is doing a serious renovation and it looks like other neighbors have done interesting updates and extensions.

    It would be nice if it was spring and the garden was in bloom, especially the 100 year-old rose bush.

    But soon it snows and it will finally be winter in Brooklyn…

  3. This is all pretty tiresome. A review of the weblogs shows that:
    1) Bob Marvin was not posting under multiple personalities;
    2) Brownoser was in fact the one who posted the inciteful 1:06 post and then stirred up debate all the way through. Uncool.
    3) The 6:01 poster needs to learn some manners too.

  4. If it’s a cellar I take it back. It’s still a very nice looking house, but I think for that price you could get a similarly sized house in Bay Ridge, e.g., which I think should command a higher price. But maybe somebody from the neighborhood can chime in.

  5. linusvanpelt,

    In response to your question about the size of the Sunset Park House, It looks to me like it’s two stories plus a Cellar (more than 1/2 below grade) If I read the listing correctly there are only two floors of living space. Also, it appears to have a relatively low stoop and very small windows on the lower level. I may be wrong though–I wish somone who knows the block would join in.

    The two story houses I referred to in my own neighborhood have a similar arrangement, with a lower level that has small windows and contains the furnace water heater, etc. Many larger brownstones have a lower floor that is technically a basement (more than half above grade) but is only a few inches below grade. My own house has a “basement” like that (although we always call it the ground floor)which contains a front dining room, rear kitchen, and various pantrys,laundry room, etc with a full (although windowless and completely below grade) cellar underneath.
