Gosh, maybe I’ll be going to some open houses this Saturday!!!!! Fun!
Wow, that Bed Stuy house looks very well kept. I would paint, take up the carpets, re-do the floors, and move right in. I wouldn’t do an electrical upgrade although clearly the system is old. I see there is some kind of false ceiling in some of the rooms, but I would keep that too since it looks nice and isn’t dropped. The kitchen is A-plus perfect.
Maybe there’s some other issue such as brownstone spalling or repointing or the roof. I don’t know this particular block, but the block below it on Halsey has yoga and seems to be a nice place. There is a wonderful cafe called Liquid Oz two blocks from here on Malcolm X that has pastries from Balthazar and amazing espresso drinks. Bed Stuy Fish Fry is about two blocks away.
Does anyone have any thoughts about living in this part of Bed-Stuy? Could I assume that the new bars, restaurants etc that I have read about are a bit to the west, closer to Clinton Hill?
I don’t know what moonface sensibilities means.
That’s one thing. Also, how can you tell that house is adorable from those postage stamp pictures?
Also, I don’t understand the difficulty in understanding that living in NY MUST be very desirable or else prices would not be this high. You don’t have to even understand WHY it’s desirable, but mustn’t it be? What else explains these prices? I mean, what else could be the MAJOR factor?
That’s some beautiful stonework in the living room on 10th Street…
The moonfaces would be shitting themselves in Newburgh, Rob. But you can find a shell there for under $50k!
Ahhhh. Thanks. Makes more sense.
And Boerum- hey, they’re different markets. One is for the person with modern/contemporary aesthetic inclinations, and one is for my crazy uncle who shag-carpets his van.
the ends dont justify the means in nyc anymore, real estate price wise. do they? i could be missing something. maybe every rich person from all over the world now wants to buy here? but why? i guess if you are already rich you aint moving here for a job… but people who move here for jobs are gonna be in for a bit of a shocker, as they have been for a while now.
even just 10 years ago in nyc you could move here and get a job and survive… but now mmmmm… you can’t do that unless you are seriously parentally funded with monies. this is beyond sustainable. i suspect a mass migration out of nyc in 2015. the apple is gonna pop.

Streeteasy must think its in Westchester with those taxes.
