  1. The Albemarle house is an absolutely beautiful they-don’t-make-them-like-that-anymore TWENTY room house. Yes, I realize, from the original thread on it, that it needs work that is not evident from the photos. But I agree that with the necessary work, it is well over a two million dollar house. It’s a bit of a white elephant, probably, because of its size, but someone bought it in this condition; someone would have paid considerably more if it were pristine.

  2. Yes, I believe Miss Muffett sold a place that she’d been in for some time.

stevie…I always enjoy a good knock down drag out argument here from time to time. The bailouts have been poorly handled from both the government side and the banks’ side.

Everybody deserves a good rant, at least once a day.

MInard, MYOB or we’ll both gang up on you. 🙂

  3. DIBS, what you just wrote was very understanding and reasonable. I am sorry I have been attacking you on here and have been ranting so much. I understand what you mean by people who make money should get compensated and I actually agree. I guess we can agree to disagree about the bailouts. I will refrain from ranting on bstoner going forward and just concentrate on real estate discussions.

  4. I understand the frustration of not being able to get a place that you want because prices are too high. Look, I don’t get multimillion dollar bonuses either or I wouldn’t be in Bed Stuy.

Prices here aren’t going up real soon. They may or may not have bottomed for brownstones ( I think they are close) but they certainly haven’t for condos.

I think interest rates though are really low and may not stay that way for long ( but should for another 6-12 months).

  5. Well, what is pathetic is how little they spend as a percentage of their income to make them feel a bit better about themselves. If they are really generous, why don’t they follow Bill Gates and Warren Buffett’s lead by donating EVEYTHING they have? What is despicable is how a lot of them are able to make money only because the government bailed them out or bailed out institutions that they have counter party risk with. The government should have let every one of them go bankrupt in an orderly fashion. I bet you the sun would still have come out the next day and Citigroup’s ATM machines would still be dispensing cash.
It is this big lie they told, the “save us! or else risk the second great depression”, that blackmailed the american public into handing their hard earned cash over to the bankers.
Now that the bankers are again flush with bonus cash, hard working families like mine and Miss Muffett’s and countless others, are finding ourselves once again priced our of desirable neighborhoods where we can raise a family. Where is the justice?

  6. My point in bringing it up was to indicate how pervasive an effect WS bonuses have. The lack thereof hurts a large portion of this city’s economy and, in this case, charities as well.

They certainly have a MUCH MUCH higher multiplier effect than if they were paid to the government as taxes instead of paid out to employees.
