The Daily News reports that homeowners who bought HPD-sponsored homes in Ocean Hill say their properties are riddled with problems because of a contractor’s sloppy work. The homeowners say the problems include “water leaks pouring through windows, walls, and basements and leading to mold, cracks in walls, no insulation, and electric outlets and plumbing not working.” The story says that the buyers each paid around $412,000 for the homes a couple of years ago and that construction problems have been documented on 35 of the 42 homes built as part of the HPD development. The city no longer does business with the contractor, Transcorp Construction, but has yet to work out a contract with a new company to carry out the necessary repairs. One of the homeowners has this to say: “It was backed by the city, so I thought this was great…But they dealt with this shoddy developer, and now we’re all getting screwed.”
