If you’re a troll or a spammer, you better try to get your last licks in now, because by Monday, the guest commenting function will be a thing of the past on Brownstoner. If you haven’t signed up for a user account yet, please try to do so in the next couple of days. (If you don’t receive your verification email within a couple of minutes, just email us and we’ll verify you by hand.) If you already have a user account and voted for the elimination of guest commenting, please put your money where your mouth is and make an effort to get involved in discussions. Another to remember is that you are still anonymous when you comment with a username: Just pick a silly name like Cobble Hill Guy and stick with it; no other readers will be able to see your email address or know who you really are. Our hope and expectation is that the improved quality of the threadsalong with our ability to boot anyone who steps out of boundswill more than make up for any decline in the quantity of comments.
We know that there are a lot of long-time readers out there who’ve gradually been moving to the sidelines of the discussions as they’ve grown nastier and more inane, and hopefully they will take this as an opportunity to re-engage and take the sense of community back to its roots where we can have meaningful, useful discussions about real estate, architecture and the many issues that confront the borough and its neighborhoods as the inevitable wheels of change continue to turn.
There are going to be a number of new features coming to the site in the next few months, the use of which will also be enhanced by having a user account. The first of these, launching next week, involves a group effort at building a comprehensive restaurant guide for the borough. (Having a username is particularly useful because other readers can come to trust, or distrust, you opinions about restaurants.) Other features down the pipe include map-based mobile access of the Brownstoner archives, neighborhood emails and some new service-oriented improvements in the architect and contractor spaces.
Ysabelle- that’s what you consider a witty comment? Ha ha ha ha. jeesh. added so much to the discussion.
I’m glad we are going back to registration. I don’t understand why it is such a big deal. I participate in all kinds of sites that require registration in order to comment, and it is not hard to make up a name, register it, and have it saved to the site so I don’t need to log in again on most of them. I hope this works.
I am rather disgusted by the people who have made it their mission in life to harass people they don’t like, such as the people who don’t like bxgrl, Biff and Dave. Having been on the receiving end of this myself, I hope their personal trolls get tired of the harassment, as it adds nothing to the site or to the discussions. Don’t you have anything else to do? Sheesh.
BTW, Mr. B. None of my posts ever appear. They all disappear into the limbo of the disclaimer that you have received my posts, and will post them at your convenience, which never happens. The only reason any of my posts have appeared in the last month is because I send them to a friend, who posts them for me, including this one. I thought it was my computer, but Brownstoner is the only site that doesn’t accept my messages. Oddly enough, my posts to the forum appear, which is on a different system, as I understand it. Any ideas? (I’m sure this will cause no end of amusement to some, go ahead, bring it on.)

Is your name Butler or is that your profession?
“You don’t want people to know about your living situation, don’t share it or lie about your situation. If you think you are going to remind us all about yourself constantly and then get pissy when we remember it, you are off your rocker.”
If i mentioned it, it was to make a point. I, unlike you, have nothing to hide. And if you were simply remembering, that would be one thing- but it’s more than that with you. I don’t get pissy when someone remembers, I get pissy when trolls use it to bash and insult me. If you can’t see that difference you’re dumber than I thought.
“Hippo-crit”- see- dumber than a box of hair. I’ve given you the correct spelling and you’re still incapable of getting it right.
“I disagree with everything you say. Every single thing. Get used to it.” I am used to it and frankly, I don’t care. You’re annoying, like a gnat, but you’ll have to be a whole lot smarter and better at debate than you are now for me to worry about you disagreeing with everything I say. In fact, I’m rather proud of that- I’d be more worried if the likes of you agreed with me on anything.
“If you insist on making this site about yourself then, surprise, you are going to have to deal with the fall out.” Sorry- I can’t take the credit for that. On the contrary- you make it about me because whenever I post you and your other multiple selves do the thermonuclear posting thing. Thanks for doing the hard work for me 🙂
“Besides, who can top the What interesting insults.” Certainly not you.
Don’t like me posting? Tough- get used to it.
Hope it works to reduce the tedious and hateful idiocy quotient. Lately, even if I wanted to comment on something, I started to wonder why I’d bother, when every thread would rapidly deteriorate into PeeWee Herman-level rubbish. Maybe this will help; there used to be some gold amid the dross.
“I have a real problem with racism, INSULTS TO MY INTELLIGENCE and comments about my living situation or friends.”

“Oh wait- my mistake. that would mean you had some intelligence.”

You don’t want people to know about your living situation, don’t share it or lie about your situation. If you think you are going to remind us all about yourself constantly and then get pissy when we remember it, you are off your rocker.
Never made fun of your friends. Just making you look at what you say and how it constantly contradicts itself (and frequently goes off topic).
“I have no problem with differences of opinion”
– bxgrl
I disagree with everything you say. Every single thing. Get used to it.
You have said repeatedly in earlier threads that people who posted as guest should not have their opinions taken as seriously as the logged in members…….

“Biff, The What, most others- they’re not after anyone personally.”
– bxgrl
Are you serious? Where do I start.
If you insist on making this site about yourself then, surprise, you are going to have to deal with the fall out.
As for Dave, Biff and the What, they beat each other up so I don’t have to bother with them and their multiple log in names. Besides, who can top the What interesting insults.
Brownstoner:
Maybe this is a good idea.
I’ve come to enjoy it here as a space to reminisce, catch up with Brooklyn, and take a break from my hectic schedule, and I’ve actually come to look forward to reading some of your regular posters — a nice way to be in Brooklyn when I seldom ever get there.
I also want to congratulate you on both Brownstoner and the flea, the latter a kind of home-grown urban renewal effort and perhaps one of the best examples of a transition from cyber-space to real space anywhere (when experts like Bill Mitchell thought just the reverse would happen because the Web). Some day I’ll have to get there.
Good luck.

8:59, There is no post tracking. That’s a myth ‘stoner keeps spreading. Seems that ‘stoner reviews the posts and keeps the few that he likes, i.e., the ones that are actually helpful (in his view).
For example, look at daveinbedstuy. He makes many posts per day. But according to his profile, he hasn’t made one since March 31st.

I see ‘stoner’s POV, and storage costs money, but there you have it,
sorry- I forgot to log in when i took a dinner break. 8:59 is me.
