The gorgeous limestone mansions at 404 and 408 Stuyvesant Avenue in Stuyvesant Heights have both been on the market for over a year. (In the case of Number 404, it’s been about 18 months since the owner tried an auction approach.) Many open houses and price cuts later, 404 is showing up as having just gone into contract; the most recent asking price was $1,475,000. As for 408, which is listed at $1,550,000, there’s still no buyer. Could have something to do with that pesky rent-stabilized unit.

  1. we should all meet at Augie’s Brownstoner Inn on Fulton just about 2-3 blocks west of these houses and try and figure out who is who……….Wed or Thurs night??? I’m buying.

Its a neighborhood landmark of a sort. Might be better than the Brown Sugar Inn. It’s not a place that one would think is going to support my $2.5-3.0 million dollar prices but I’vebeen there and the crowd is really friendly

I just don’t want to leave seeing jerri and Biff making out in the corner!!

  2. daveinbedstuy, very nicely summarized and you’ll definitely be missed. Try to check in and say hi once in awhile.

jerri, you’re sweet and smart and you had me at your bush comment the other day.

  3. I respect you also, daveinbedstuy!

I think we’ve had a nice discussion today. Things seem to be on the up and up.

I think Biff’s a little more my type in the sack though…if you know what I mean.

    But that’s for another website.

Enjoy the rest of your retirement!

  4. Jerri, sorry but your “experience” can’t be that extensive if you think that Ft. Greene has always been up there with Park Slope in terms of its “acceptibility” for a good chunk of buyers. I happen to love FG, but it’s only pretty recently that it has been seen as something approaching blue chip or however you want to put it.

  5. MM- I said I didn’t need the explanation. I bet you’d be happy if it was a 3 million dollar home in CH. I hear there’s a slow, steady growth on your ass!

If you can’t take the heat stay out the kitchen. No time and no love for smart dumb homeowners who re-fried and couldn’t get the high rent they were banking on cause so and so up the street did the same. I don’t blame the banks one bit.

Thanks to Brownstoner I found out there was a 6 million dollar home sale in BH. I’m excited for the boro and I’m on the roof of my PH home busting mental shots from my AK47 on the roof. Yelling the bubble great!
