The gorgeous limestone mansions at 404 and 408 Stuyvesant Avenue in Stuyvesant Heights have both been on the market for over a year. (In the case of Number 404, it’s been about 18 months since the owner tried an auction approach.) Many open houses and price cuts later, 404 is showing up as having just gone into contract; the most recent asking price was $1,475,000. As for 408, which is listed at $1,550,000, there’s still no buyer. Could have something to do with that pesky rent-stabilized unit.

  1. it was all due to the faded grey type spammer who morfed into a real problem spammer…Biff and I had some editorial comments about it and Biff even though I was talking about him at one point because MR B was working frantically to get the spam off and it kept popping up more and more frequently.

Biff, and perhaps I too, may have stepped over the line but I think we all learned our lesson and are going to sit in our seats and behave from now on.

I have temporarily retired myself from my firm but will be back to a regular work schedule in a few weeks somewhere else and won’t be as active on this site after that. I will miss my retirement months and hope that you all carry on the battles that need to be fought.

  2. Brooklynnative, it started rather harmlessly in “Nine Bklyn Councilmembers Vote Against Congest Fee” and got ugly in “AY Owners, Renters File Eminent Domain Appeal” although I think a couple of the more intense posts were deleted).

It’s all good now and I think Mr. B is just trying to do his best (given the recent frustrating server issues).

  3. I don’t Montrose. Thank you. As for the larger view of “gentrification”, this neighborhood is going through a lot of gentrification by the entrenched homeowners. They are the ones that have kept the crime down. they are the ones spending money on their front yards and their facades.

Nobody moves into a neighborhood like this to turn a quick profit anymore. The prices will someday reach $2.5-3.0 million, not in a hurry but also won’t take another 15-20 years.

And some of the other comments about the level of services are correct. There are only 3 restaurants within walking distance to sit down and have a decent meal…Solomon’s Porch, Brooks Valley and Bassam (which is now temporarily closed)

I go to Boerum Hill alot for restaurants and definitely for higher end food shopping.

  4. Aaah, thanks Jerri, I was glad to see you too and thought about saying hi, but didn’t want people to talk :-), not that either of us really tend to care about that.

(you should have seen the nonsense this morning, it was so silly)
