House of the Day: 388 Stuyvesant Avenue
Wow. This limestone house at 388 Stuyvesant Avenue in Stuyvesant Heights sure is a beauty. The three-family listing, which is currently featured in the Brownstoner Marketplace, has original details out the wazoo–inlaid parquet floors, wainscoting, stained glass windows, etc. The asking price is $1,247,000, definitely on the high side for the area, is hard to…

There is an original wood-burning stove and icebox though. Old school!

Mopar, I know this baby is more than 800k. but if for whatever reason they willing to sell it at that price, I’ll elbow my way to the front of the line to offer the 800k
Yeah, but Dave, you can’t sleep there!

“You can’t wake up to this kind of detail in a restaurant.”
The old Deux Chiminees in Philadelphia!!!
Expert, this house is smack in the middle of amenities. Peaches, Saraghina, Macon library, farmer’s market, soda fountain with Leuewellyn (sp?) ice cream and drugstore with fancy soap, antique stores, Akwaaba mansion, the always opening Butternut, etc.
Only if you cook every night, dibs!

Quote of the week.
Expert Tenant, it’s kind of hilarious that the St. Marks mansion keeps getting mentioned given that it’s not an actual listing! What it is is a gorgeous limestone mansion that was on last weekend’s Crown Heights House Tour. It needs a total reno of all the mechanicals and a not insubstantial amount of restoration work. Once that’s done, it will be an incredible beauty of a house, no doubt. But the St. Marks house is already claimed and the current owners are now owning, moaning and groaning their way through the reclamation process. Plus, there are two downsides in terms of location for the St. Marks house(1) it is next door to a church and (2) across the street from a school (?) Having lived next door to a church and across the street from a public school in my past now way would I choose to ever do that again. IOW, been there, done that, and hell no, I don’t even want the tee shirt!)
Now, as for turnkey homes that are currently on the market in BS or CH, my guess is that this Stuy Heights house is at the top of fabulous house list.
Expert, it’s the same old St. Marks mansion we’ve been talking about for a couple of years. It’s not on the market at this time.
I’d rather be able to have a faboo house like this than amenities. You can’t wake up to this kind of detail in a restaurant. Besides, Lewis Ave is getting there fast. Good enough for me. Also, if I could afford this, I’d probably own a car, which can take me to all the amenities I need.
On the downside, Dave lives down the street.
M4L, this is not your average run of the mill fancy Bed Stuy house worth $800,000. This is absolutely huge, was top of the line when built, and is in perfect original condition. It might be the finest house in all of Bed Stuy. $1.2 does not seem out of line.
Amzi, Montrose?
