Wow. This limestone house at 388 Stuyvesant Avenue in Stuyvesant Heights sure is a beauty. The three-family listing, which is currently featured in the Brownstoner Marketplace, has original details out the wazoo–inlaid parquet floors, wainscoting, stained glass windows, etc. The asking price is $1,247,000, definitely on the high side for the area, is hard to assess without seeing photos of the kitchens and bathrooms. There is an original wood-burning stove and icebox though. Old school!

  1. I am in Italy but I had to say something about this fine home.. I was at last years tour and I still talk about this house often.. I think this Stuyvesant Heights house should sell for 1 million easy… This is one of the best homes in Brooklyn.

  2. NOP – my thoughts too except one set of grandparents died when i was young and the other lived in a modern hi-rise with modern art, so it’s not my memories.

it’s threads like these where i realize you guys actually like this stuff. i understand the positive financial implications of owning a townhouse, but these interiors, wow! they are so overwhelming and depressing. reminds me of the after school special where the old lady who lives alone invites some kids over and no one comes.

  3. That living room looks like my late grandparents’. No matter how bright the day, the atmosphere was leaden and formal. And I can remember the horse-hair sofas scratching the backs of my legs whenever I wore short pants!

As they say in the Bronx, No Thonx! (Not so much the house, but the associations that make me pass.)

  4. The Saraghina place is very slow, yes. Not sure about the finances for the corner of macon & Stuy. 🙁

Heather, they were very selective as to who could be allowed to pass out there. Certainly not any dreck fromBrooklyn, that’s for sure!

  5. Wow. You would think there would be insurance to make the repairs. I guess I can’t expect to shop there for months, if not longer. After all they’ve been through, I’m surprised they haven’t given up. And what about the restaurant the guys from Saraghina are supposed to open up across the street from Butternut? Anything going on with that? Or the restaurant that supposed to open on Macon and Stuyvesant. Nothing seems to be happening there either. I guess I’m impatient for more amenities.
