There’s no accounting for taste. This three-family house at 184 West 9th Street was recently renovated and while the interior is just bland in a Home Depot kind of way this facade is one for the record books. What were they thinking! There’s a lot of square footage so maybe the asking price of $1,899,000 will end up working for an investor. It’s hard to imagine a buyer falling in love with this.

  1. Sorry you missed my sarcasm, benson – I was really trying to think of something that someone could say about it that might have some pull with someone who knew nothing about the area, although the Corcoran broker did better than that with “access to the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel makes commuting to Manhattan effortless.” My true take on it? Run away!

  2. Nokilissa, I disagree, I think the giant-screen TV in the other room is probably a big draw away from the kitchen table, homey as it is. Otherwise, yes, it is the kind of eat in kitchen that could be a real family space. Unless of course the two rooms are connected, in which case we now know why the “roof deck” looks like a holding pen for badly-behaved deck chairs.

  3. “Reminds me of my Gramma Milly’s old kitchen where everyone would gather. Linoleum-tiled with a huge table and no one ever used the formal living room entrance. We always entered through the kitchen because that was where everyone gathered and where Gramma was likely to be.”

Seriously speaking: Noki’s comments above capture the essence of what living in Brooklyn used to mean.

Now of course, we are much more advanced and sophisticated in Brooklyn. Evidence of our sophistication is that we stare at computer screens all day and snark on the taste of people we deem to be below us, all to Mr. B.’s commerical benefit.

  4. I’m serious, Park Sloper. This is someone’s home. A family’s home, and the discussion of the property needn’t be so strident or mean. I guess given the current “discussions” about the mosque downtown, and the foul, bigoted, fanatical and mean mood of the country and of, more importantly, our own city, I’m starting to look for something more meaningful. I don’t know. I found the pictures sweet. Vomit away.

  5. Nothing like windowless living rooms to give one a sense of security.
Hey, Brooklyn is a polyglot sort of place. This house has a certain West Indies vibe to it. Where did they find indigo blue roof tiles? Those must be imported.
