Well, there’s one thing you can say for sure about 68 Skillman Avenue: Those floors sure are shiny! The 2,500-square-foot house has just had a full make-over but we’re not loving the results. Sure everything looks neat and tidy but it’s got neither the charm of an old house nor the sexiness of a modern one. And for $1,495,000, we’d want one or the other.

  1. Yes, the layout of the 1st floor needs to (or should have been) re-worked: a dead-end living room with a separate giant kitchen/dining room?
It would work better if the dining room had been put in the middle, open to the living room in the front and kitchen in the back.
And even a little bit of landscaping in the back would have been nice.

  2. “General question, is east of the BQE Greenpoint and not Williamsburg? I know that realtors try to stretch it to Canarsie, but I remember a friend’s place on Humboldt/Frost being considered definitely Greenpoint 10 years ago.”

The BQE slopes, so once you get east of union, but south of the BQE it’s “East Williamsburg” (according to my 90 yr old neighbor) – north of the bqe is typically greenpoint, unless you’re directly south of McCarren, where Bayard is the cutoff.

Certain streets are exceptions – parts of Herbert, N Henry and Monitor around graham are south of the bqe but have a greenpoint zipcode (11222)

  3. Haha, Dave! And polished tile at that.

fyi – polished stone / tile in a kitchen is a No No. Drop liquid on the floor and you might go for a spill and flying on your ass.
If you have kids, they run around, You really want them slipping on a hard stone tile floor?
    Think people think.
