The striking brownstone at 135 Bainbridge Street in Bed Stuy was an Open House Pick last summer when it was on the market for $1,249,500. The price is now a far more realistic $989,000. The four-family appears to have a lot of original detail intact, but the number of interior photos is pretty limited; presumably the house has suffered somewhat from being chopped up into four units though. Has anyone been inside?

  1. I agree with your assessment of the block. it is really nice and so is the facade of this house. But it’s been on the market for a long time, albeit at a ridiculous price.

I suspect there are occupancy issues. There is no C of O, nor are there any violations on the DOB website.

I bet taxes aren’t more than $2,300 or so.

  2. The exterior is gorgeous and with the few interior shots, it looks pretty nice on the inside.
But gosh darn it, why does it have to be:
    1) a 4-family
    2) too much for my pocketbook.

  3. no freaking way this worth 989k. that nice & big limestone one near the park was listed and probably sold for 985k or so. In comparison, this is much more inferior (nice but more more inferiour)

  4. This will be a super interesting test case for Stuy Heights. That is as prime a location as you can get for that neighborhood. Its a stunning house from the architectural perspective. Probably needs many hundreds of thousands in renovation dollars so price still to high in that case. But what a house it would be finished. I say 800 moves it.

  5. Here’s the listing description….

Property currently being used as a 4 family brownstone townhouse.

Legal use established is a Single Family. Owner has retained architect to arrange Certificate of Occupancy to be amended to a Legal 2 Family upon accepted offer contracted.

Except for the C of O issue, it says ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the house.

If there are four families in there now, good luck with getting any of them out!!!!
