House of the Day: 135 Bainbridge Street
The striking brownstone at 135 Bainbridge Street in Bed Stuy was an Open House Pick last summer when it was on the market for $1,249,500. The price is now a far more realistic $989,000. Has anyone been inside?

This house has a truly elegant exterior.
if the interiors retain a fraction of the
charming exterior, it’s a keeper.
No, I haven’t been in it.
I believe I’ve seen one floor of this house. I believe DIBS has seen all of it. At the time, DIBS commented that it wasn’t worth $1.3. My recollection of the one floor I saw was that it had been divided into two units, but in such a way that it could be easily reconfigured back again as one unit. They hadn’t removed anything or destroyed anything, just added kitchen appliances to the back parlor (of course, you’d have to remove the plumbing, obviously).
How does retaining an architect make it possible to change the CofO on closing?
i would love for this house to sell in the 800’s or 900’s. however, i honestly don’t think it’s worth it. it definetly will need work. i am thinking 700’s.
There was a four-family on that same block that was listed for $700k with Fillmore. Believe its under contract now but still on their website.
All the interior photos are of a single room. Yikes – this does not bode well for the rest of the house.
Granted, I bought a house that was advertised on CL and had no pictures, but I knew that (at that price) it would HAVE to be a total gut (which it was).
This is one of the Magnus Dahlander brownstones I wrote about a couple of weeks ago. This is one of my favorite blocks anywhere. It’s absolutely gorgeous.
That said, I have a sneaky fear that the fireplace featured so prominantly is it for significant detail, aside from the painted French doors and woodwork. I hope I’m wrong. That would kill it for me, I’d have to wait until another one goes on the market on that block. I know someone on that block, and her house had gorgeous detail through and through.
I’m thinking in the $800’s, too.
Oops! Taxes are $6,600, I guess because of the 4- family COO.
I am not quite sure what the listing means about the legal use as a 1- family.
Anyway, the house looks grand, I think it’s a bit pricy.
Thanks for clarifying the 4-family thing DIBS.
But there’s still #2 on my list….the $$$$ factor.
