House of the Day: 33 Willow Place
This new listing at 33 Willow Place looks pretty swanky. The brick single-family house is 25 feet wide and full of original details. The house has clearly had a renovation recently, and overall it looks very tastefully done. Given the size, condition and primo Brooklyn Heights location, the asking price of $3,750,000 isn’t completely crazy….

Who stole the bathrooms from this French Country Classic? And is that what passes for a kitchen in this $3.75M house?
All of civilized Europe converted their crappy steam heating to hot water and radiant systems a long time ago.
What’s that big thing next door?
I’m buying the house just so I can live in the treehouse at the back of the garden. Definite upgrade from my tent! (Sorry, Cobble!)
Homey, you should check out the new book “How to cook gourmet meals in a tiny, crappy kitchens.”
(Not that this kitchen is either one.)
I saw the house. It has a lovely feel to it, very European. The back yard is awesome. But, the bathrooms are totally inadequate. The kitchen does not work for a family as is. The person who buys this place will most likely redo all the bathrooms and then install a new, large kitchen on the ground floor with access to the garden. Anything else really does not make much sense at this price. The house is really charming, and while not large, the bedroom are all a nice size.
Love it. Kitchen odd I agree, but I’d still buy it if I were several income brackets higher.
I too am mystified by the kitchen. I know rich folks like to order in and all but I thought having a big kitchen was a status symbol today – this one just feels cramped. Other pix look nice and I have no clue about the price as this seems to be one of those trophy properties that are so far out of my price range that I don’t really follow them…

According to the Abramovitch book (which is quite awesome if you don’t already own it), the biggest decision the owner faced was what to do with the garden level kitchen. Ultimately she decided to simplify her lifestyle and relocate it in the parlor level sun room.
She also elected not to enlarge any of the original bathrooms.
Quite an extensive renovation – new roof, windows taken apart and rebuilt, three newly lined fireplace flutes, etc., but wherever possible, kept the original details.
You really have to see the layout in the book. This place is pitch perfect.
Wow, Willow Place. Best street in the borough. I always wondered what one of these little shacks would cost.
And yes, this house was indeed featured in “Restoring a House in the City.” The kitchen is singular.
The kitchen is really lovely, and timeless. I’m heartsick I don’t own it.
