Here’s a modest but attractive house in good shape at an accessible price: 871 East 15th Street. The two-story brick is only 1,500 square feet, but it’s got three bedrooms, a front porch and backyard. The original parquet floors and other wood details have a lot of charm. All for $575,000. What do you think?

  1. As an aside, has anyone proposed converting the Bay Ridge branch line here to some sort of rails to trails park? (That’s the unused train line running east-west jsut north of this house).

I haven’t heard anything about the cross-harbor rail plan in ages (whcih would have brought freight rail back to this line), so I assume that idea is pretty much dead.

  2. Midwood is a horrible commute but we have several friends who make it into Manhattan from there everyday. There are some truly beautiful homes around there.

This house doesn’t seem like a great value given how many nicer, larger homes are nearby…but obvs the main attraction is 3 bdrms at a relatively reasonable price. But I think you would quickly develop a serious case of envy once you settling in and started walking around.
