Here’s a modest but attractive house in good shape at an accessible price: 871 East 15th Street. The two-story brick is only 1,500 square feet, but it’s got three bedrooms, a front porch and backyard. The original parquet floors and other wood details have a lot of charm. All for $575,000. What do you think?

  1. those ‘factoids’ from freshdirect are beginning to annoy me.
In fact the word ‘factoid’ itself is annoying.

article somewhere recently about fig trees in NYC and climate change recently. How people used to cover in winter so would make it thru cold weather but not doing it as much lately. Most often found in neighborhoods that had many Italian or Greek immigrants.
Even though figs invented by chinese.
Or at least I think was about fig trees.

  2. If it’s the same house I am thinking about, it’s been on the market for well over 2 years. Train in the backyard is a killer. Your whole living room will shake every 5 minutes or so plus they are doing construction on B/Q right now so besides the train, expect jackhammers and drills.

  3. I also have a golden delicious apple tree that produces big, beautiful apples. This year I’m going to net it to keep the squirrels and the vermin from Bay ridge away so I’ll get about a dozen of them!!!!

And yes, Ditmas, does a shower curtain really look better???? This may not be the most attractive shower door setup but who wants a shower curtain.

  4. It’s probably a quiet block in terms of car traffic – it dead ends at the LIRR cut. But I think the fig tree back yard has a tall back fence because it’s next to the subway track.

Looks pretty nice inside (aside from the green counters). Take a typical 10 or 15% off ask and it should probably sell for under half a mil. I think a decent example for the folks who ask “why can’t we see some HOTDs that don’t cost millions?”

  5. > And do people really continue to put doors on a tub?

I would. It’s much better than a shower curtain.

    > backing onto the train line might be a drag

Indeed. Nothing like moving out to a nice quiet area, only to have the train rumbling outside your backdoor 24/7.

  6. DIBS, have I ever told you what a great guy you are. Nice, wonderful, charming, handsome, considerate, amiable, delightful, gracious, pleasant, etc. etc. etc.

    And very generous….with your figs.
