A housekeeper might be in tall order, but the old bones of this house at 87 Macon Street in Bed Stuy are pretty sweet if you can look past the clutter. The painted brownstone is divided up into a double-duplex configuration and has a two-story extension off the rear. It was originally listed back in November at $849,000 but recently was reduced to $750,000. Getting warm or a ways to go?

Wow, there are some great features in this house! I really want that stove, as well as a few other goodies. The woodwork and built ins are quite fine, as well.
This is one of the prime blocks of the Bedford part of Bed Stuy. If the LPC goes ahead with an expanded Bedford Corners Historic District, this will be landmarked in the near future. I’m pretty sure it’s an Amzi Hill house, the one next door definitely is, as is most of this side of the block. There is a Montrose Morris house across the street, at 86 Macon. Girl’s High School, now an adult ed center, is on the corner of Nostrand. When the neighborhood was developing, this was a primo block, as evidenced by the detail in the house.
That said, it needs to come down in price, in the 6’s, somewhere. There is a lot to do, but when you get done, wow! Personally, these houses with a ton of stuff in them are the most fun. Most people can’t see past the stuff, so if I was looking, I’d make a beeline to this one.
I have been in this house and yes it dose need work but that said this home was full of original detail in the same family for over 50 years… This is a Amzi Hill house and Dave is right high 600 low 700 will move it.. The location is awesome…
Pigeon, 229 Macon is on Streeteasy. It’s listed by one of those web-schmeb agency.
I LOVE this block–we live up Marcy from here and it’s my route to the subway at Nostrand and Fulton. Verona is 2-way and a good short cut if you know about it but virtually no traffic.
There is one small apartment building across the street that’s a little noisy sometimes but no biggie.
Parking is really not difficult.
You moved from PS to Bed Stuy???? How do you get your friends to visit????
LOL
You should buy me a beer sometime at Augies…nice friendly old man bar a few blocks east of Super Food Town.
Never been to Augie’s.
I didn’t say parking was impossible! It’s just tough on alternate side days between Fulton and the school on Marcy. But yes, definitely easier than Park Slope! I can vouch for that because that’s where I moved from.
Agreed, the broker has supppied lots of good info on the house, but he was unable to convince the owners to get rid of 2/3 of their stuff and clean. This house could show sooo much better and make someone fall in love with it–not just the folks with a more practiced eye.
I bet parking is still easier than in Park Slope.
“Parking isn’t super easy”
Strike.
Thanks Pigeon.
