House of the Day: 125 Cortelyou Road
This house that just hit the market at 125 Cortelyou Road is hardly manion-like and some of the renovation decisions are a bummer (talking about you, front door and kitchen), the old bones of the place are charming and, more importantly, the asking price is only $649,000. This house that just hit the market at 125 Cortelyou Road is hardly manion-like and some of the renovation decisions are a bummer (talking about you, front door and kitchen), the old bones of the place are charming and, more importantly, the asking price is only $649,000. Of course, given the aesthetic changes that have happened under the current owner, it was a better buy back then at $527,000.

This house is a nightmare. I saw it yesterday, and didn’t even do my obligatory ‘humor the realtor and listen to what he has to say.’ He said it’s a legal one bedroom, but he thinks the family has relatives living in the “finished basement” which has an illegal second kitchen in it. The house had not be cleaned, and if it had, it wasn’t noticeable. There were holes in the walls, the rooms were painted shocking tangerine and smurf blue. The bathrooms were DISGUSTING, and there was a lot of damage everywhere. Carpets would definitely have to be ripped up upstairs and I’d be scared at what I’d find under them. I ran out of this house for fear of contracting a disease.
This place is WAY too close the elevated subway tracks. I imagine the noise is deafening.
Sparafucile- The Foodtown, despite the upgrade, is still not a nice grocery store. The last time I was in there (recently, post upgrade) it still smelled like funky meat. If you are going to drive to a store, might as well go to Fairway or Stop and Shop because that ShopRite is dirty and I’ve wound up bring home packaged food that turned out to have mold on it more than once. The restaurants and shops around Church are fine but there just not as many choices as CIA and the east. Not sure what “snob appeal” is to you, but I don’t think that Cinco de Mayo, Bahar, Medina and Cafe Tibet and the ton of other restaurants that appeal to the neighborhood’s diverse population are upscale establishments. Some of them are just good food, like the ones to the west. Having the other “snob appeal” stuff just means there’s more choice.
Besides that, the best part about living in the east part of Kensington is that it’s as close to the Q as the F train. And that pretty much means I never have to be stuck with one train choice, especially if that’s the F.
That dude must be psyched that NYC dropped the bee-keeping prohibition.
Rob, regarding parquet, are you sure you’re not confusing cheesy parquet tiles common in rental apartments with old parquet? Even though the tiles are wood, they can’t compare to real parquet where every wood strip is laid separately and are much larger.
Does anybody know of a good Bangladeshi/Pakistani/Indian grocery store in Kensington/Flatbush? Looking for a place to buy fresh lentils, spices, etc.
…um ok,
Clearly this is one of those broker photo switcharoos!
This photograph is obviously taken in Kathmandu, Nepal
judging from the traditional garb of the pedestrian,
and the broker is just posting it here for the purposes of the house listing.
I’m so sick of these photoshop games,
… just to sell a house!
The shopping up on Church Ave is closer and better then on cortelyou. It is a little scruffy.
It’s a reasonable walk to Foodtown on McDonald north of Church, and a very short drive from your parking space to Shop Rite.
I like the restaurants and shops in the area of Church and McDonald. More to my liking than the snob-appeal places on Cortelyou east of CIA.
Proximity to elevated train tracks and the concrete trucks is definitely a drag, though.
