It’s hard to form too strong an opinion about this limestone house at 273 Brooklyn Avenue given the lack of interior photos (or at least of ones that show much). Clearly the exterior is very attractive (except for those little awnings!) and there appears to be quite a lot of interior detail. Given that the same family has lived there for 40 years, it would not be surprising if much original detail were in place. And at 4,640 square feet, this is not a small house. Still, the asking price of $899,000 is optimistic in this market environment.

  1. oh and St. Marks house is a great location in Crown Heights.
M4L, while I hate to say this. The house is yours. I want/need a 2-family and there wasn’t a way to turn that house into one without giving up the parlor floor. And I WILL NOT give up a floor with delicious details to a tenant.

  2. Thanks MM. We saw this house last year. And you’re right to swoon over it. Gorgeous details!! I remember on the parlour floor, the center room having a great built-in. Wood and the upppers had glass doors. I thought ‘how grand’ it would be to display China and Silver in. I don’t remember the kitchen and baths, but I think they needed upgrading.

St. Marks is a big house. And stunningly gorgeous.

‘although I heard from the broker that they had 3 offers.’
I hope whoever buys it loves it and keeps all the details intact.
I wonder how much it finally went for.
That price will be a good point of reference for other houses in the nabe.

  3. Textpert, let’s not have another unfriendly exchange on that St Marks house. If it doesn’t clear per the 3 offers MM referenced, I’m ahead of you in the line to low-ball them with 700k. Now, I don’t mind taking you on as a tenant.

relative to that st mark house, this is most definitely way too high

  4. “We need houses priced so that people who are not millionaires can actually afford to live here.”

= 3x median income (including rental). 300 grand far from actual.

  5. “in the Heart of Crown Heights North!”

It’s…it’s alive! The LPC-designated CHN border is alive!

    Awnings 80’s Trumpish.

What’s with the ceiling shots? We’re not bats, we’re people.

Is the carpet just “protecting” the hardwood floors or is it indicative of the overall restoration/update status?

What’s not negotiable these days? Oh, DUMBO.a

  6. Thanks MM. Maybe I’ll go check it out. I have a feeling the layout isn’t going to be right for me cause of the 3rd floor kitchen. And I wouldn’t want to give the rental the parlor floor. DAMN you realtor for not giving us more info!!

    The listing says: Asking: 899K(NEG)!!!
And NEG is in CAPS and there are three !!! after it. Sounds like a 200k drop in price might be doabele
