House of the Day: 540 4th Street
We’re digging all the original details in this new listing at 540 4th Street. The Park Slope limestone has plenty of old-school cred but it’s gonna need to get some serious lovin’ from its next owner, a fact the listing cops to. We’re not so sure we agree that at $2,000,000, though, that it is…

The Park Slope limestone has plenty of old-school cred but it’s gonna need to get some serious lovin’ from its next owner, a fact the listing cops to. We’re not so sure we agree that at $2,000,000, though, that it is “priced accordingly” (as the listing also claims). The house is on a park block, but it’s only about 2,500 square feet. Thoughts?

Broker, are you libby ryan?
HAHAHAHAHA!!!!
I tried to work with her as a buyer and threw her out the door….my one comment to her as she said she was….(looking for words), finished sentense, “sell side”
HAHAHAHAHA
She is a total total snake oil saleswoman.
Late to the party, but am I missing something here? 2 pictures of fireplaces, 2 doorways, a skylight and an exterior…
How are you all so sure of the quality of this property? Where’s the love coming from?
My take is almost definitely a dilapidated mess w/ nice details in a great location.
And for this a cool 2 Mil…
very nice block I know it well. hope this puppy sells for 2.5!!!! If your hire professional trademen who understand these and not butchers after a quick buck you should have no problem living while the mechanicals are updated.
What a gorgeous house. Crazypants, you couldn’t live there while they do the electrical renovation — you would choke on the dust. But it will take only three weeks. Start picking out the fixtures now. (I see they have some nice ones from 1901, but you will need more.)
Agree, this house may need very little work. $300,000 renovation — I don’t think so.
I’m always disappointed when a lovely house such as this has no cellar and no Garden Apartment, but just an English Basement.
(Am I using these terms correctly? Garden Apartment is enough above ground so that it can be a legal apartment. Right? If it’s not above ground enough, it’s an English Basement. Right? The cellar is what would be beneath these. Right?)
So are we saying that the house does not have a cellar? Seems odd. From the picture it looks like the parlor floor is set up high. It would be unusual for a house with such a tall basement not to have a cellar, but then one never knows with old houses.
I think 2500 sq ft is plenty large even for larger family.
what do you think is size of typical 4 bedroom house in burbs? I have a 3 bedroom, 2 bath, with large family room upstate and about 1800sq ft.
And if you are typical uppermiddleclass type parent and really don’t want your kids around…easy enuf to make kids family room in englist basement.
it is a long walk to a decent subway (not the F). but that’s the price of centerslope park blocks. get your driver to shuttle you around.
Which realty firm are you from then?
