We’re in love with the bayfront brownstone at 448 6th Street that just hit the market. It feels historically authentic but not precious, and it’s a little different from your standard-issue brownstone. The asking price is $2,825,000. Given the current meltdown and the fact that the house is only 17 feet wide, that’s going to be tough, but, man, whoever ends up here is a lucky duck.

  1. 11217, I appreciate your explanation and I can’t help the way you feel about her, but my own experience with her has shown me that she is a very kind person who is quite serious in her search for a dream home for her and her family. She has the means to afford the places she’s expressed interest in. I just don’t think she should be faulted for being selective in finding such a place, even if that means it’s taken her months or even years to do so. In my most recent search, I literally saw over 100 homes in numerous areas in Manhattan and Brooklyn and took over a year to find the “right” place, so I can understand others who go through a similar painstaking process; particularly when they have a family to consider.

Anyway, I really don’t think she means any harm when joking about others and I find her, as I find you, to be one of the most interesting posters here. Hopefully you both will meet this Thursday and find out you really do like each other. And Dave’s right; once you meet other ‘Stoners, they do become more than an anonymous bold type poster.

As for your theory about her and I being one and the same. I can assure you we aren’t: my legs are far hairier and she’s much more attractive.

Ok, let’s get back to the strawberries and cream!

  2. Hmmm, good question. Maybe just Wednesday, because by then people will already know if they can make it or not?

    (I wouldn’t concern/compare myself with What – he’s off the charts.)

Oy, that was a joke Biff, A JOKE, ok, maybe a bad joke, but a joke just the same! For cryin’ out loud! I’m looking forward to meeting everyone, that is if anyone actually speaks to me! I was trying to get What to come to the party, and I thought it would make him laugh! The guy seems like he could use a laugh, no? We can “worry” this a bit more on Thursday – as needed. Better Half and I should be there no later than 7.

  3. Oh wow, the kitchen. What a great fireplace. Agree with above poster about the Aga stove. What a great opportunity to put in Edwardian or 1920s-style plain cupboards and wooden counters. You could run a counter on the opposite wall, but I have found with a big table like that you don’t need it.

  4. (handing 11217 a Valium)

(handing Nokilissa a box of tissues)

(pouring myself another glass of wine)

Chill peoples. It’s all good. Let’s just chalk it up to having The Mondays!

  5. cobblehiller, I wasn’t necessarily planning on it. Hmmmm. Well, since you did mention it, ok, what the hey! Should I do it Wednesday or Thursday or both? (The What’s clearly set a precedent that one can run a forum post on as many consecutive days as one wants). Thanks for asking and I’m genuinely looking forward to you, even if you have expressed concerns about being trapped between Dave and me in a conversation 🙂

I’ve invited Mr. B and all of the Brownstoner staff via email. There are indications they might make guest appearances, but I’ll leave that to them to confirm. I think it would be wonderful if they all dropped by. I’m sure many people would love to say hi and thank them for doing what they do and bringing out all this love in everybody.

  6. I appreciate your words, Biff, but Nokilissa has always rubbed me the wrong way. Every other post mentions what she does and does not expect for 3 million dollars. She’s been on here “looking” for a house for how many months/years?

I find her posts snippy, her attitude downright nasty at times, and to me she comes across as incredibly spoiled and entitled. Maybe that’s not the case, but that’s the sense I get.

I’m sure there are some who don’t appreciate my posts either, but to say I would be “hurt” by another persons posts on here would be kinda ridiculous. It’s a blog and I don’t know here personally. This isn’t a family…it’s an online blog about real estate. For all I know Biff…you ARE Nokilissa.

I have followed her posts for a while now, and they are usually negative, references her house “budget” whenever she can, and oftentimes makes rude and stereotypical remarks about people…hipsters…trust funders…we’ve heard it all.

For everyone else, I am cool, calm and collected.
