Two of Brownstone Brooklyn’s biggest celebs have put their Prospect Park West mansion on the market and are moving to the West Village. In a post this morning, Curbed reported that Jennifer Connelly (who grew up in Park Slope) and actor hubby Paul Bettany are in contract on a $7 million penthouse at 288 West Street. Lest you fear for their ability to come up with the dough, however, we’ve discovered that they stand to clear $8,500,000 on the sale of their limestone mansion at 17 Prospect Park West. The 5,200-square-foot house, which the couple bought for $3,700,000 back in 2003, has to be the nicest house to come to market in a looooong time. Check out these pics!

  1. Sorry for my double-post above, there. It said post is being held for review. Which I’d never seen before so that’s why I posted twice. Are posts really being reviewed or is it a server issue again?

As for overpriced, I think it will sell for its price. Tends to happen to celebrity houses in Manhattan and L.A., so if it happens here it shows Brooklyn is now truly like Manhattan. This house is a huge status item. Some people can’t resist buying such a thing. Look at the people who buy $100K cars.

  2. I have to say…I don’t love the new place they are buying. It is literally RIGHT OVER THE HIGHWAY on the west side and right next to a Mobil Gas station.

I understand celebs wanting to be in the thick of things, but 7 million dollars for that loft compared to this gorgeous house on the Park…no way I’d trade that baby in.

The new place looks cheap. I think they must be going though a midlife crisis.

the post clearly states that they lived in the penthouse not the whole thing so i’m sure they dont have to worry about the condition of their limestone. plus they’re multimillionaires so
i dont think maintaining is a issue.
