Two of Brownstone Brooklyn’s biggest celebs have put their Prospect Park West mansion on the market and are moving to the West Village. In a post this morning, Curbed reported that Jennifer Connelly (who grew up in Park Slope) and actor hubby Paul Bettany are in contract on a $7 million penthouse at 288 West Street. Lest you fear for their ability to come up with the dough, however, we’ve discovered that they stand to clear $8,500,000 on the sale of their limestone mansion at 17 Prospect Park West. The 5,200-square-foot house, which the couple bought for $3,700,000 back in 2003, has to be the nicest house to come to market in a looooong time. Check out these pics!

  1. Pretty lazy (or uninformed?) of Sotheby’s to leave out the names of the original owner and architect on the listing. Those details are meaningful in the high-end Brooklyn house market and it seems they don’t know that.

  2. This has nothing to do with neighborhood or “trading down”, 1:36. It’s a lifestyle choice. We own a limestone (not this big!) and it’s a full time job. If we both had jobs that required us to be out of town constantly we’d never own a house. We’d be in a condo. As for Tribeca, it’s where all the film people live in Manhattan. Of course that’s where they chose to buy. Park Slope doesn’t have huge size condos. Sometimes a rare large coop on PPW. That still isn’t as big as the ones you can get in Manhattan.

  3. B-stoner: you were the fonz when you started and your ruled; and when you posted the tony the t soprano triplex photos you were still the fonz–albeit in leather jacket approaching the water ski jump in Hawaii…

..And now with this “celebrity” rumor posting/ real estate porn–should’ve been a pure listing–instead a directional to a home w/kids outing (in wake of Uma stalker trial, much shame) you are very much the fonz; although now in the air over the sharks with your thumbs up sign. yeah.

Brooklyn is better than this. Your site was better than this. good luck with the Flea and many happy landings.

i’m out (of this) but still here in brooklyn….shame shame on you

  5. Jennifer Connelly was born and grew up in Brooklyn Heights. Except for the few years she spent up in Woodstock with her family.

The PPW house is one of the nicest I’ve ever seen. Holy COW!
