Two of Brownstone Brooklyn’s biggest celebs have put their Prospect Park West mansion on the market and are moving to the West Village. In a post this morning, Curbed reported that Jennifer Connelly (who grew up in Park Slope) and actor hubby Paul Bettany are in contract on a $7 million penthouse at 288 West Street. Lest you fear for their ability to come up with the dough, however, we’ve discovered that they stand to clear $8,500,000 on the sale of their limestone mansion at 17 Prospect Park West. The 5,200-square-foot house, which the couple bought for $3,700,000 back in 2003, has to be the nicest house to come to market in a looooong time. Check out these pics!

“that tribeca spot will be sweet when the park is finished later this year.”
Yes, but you still have the highway right below you with horrible traffic, congestion, noise and co2 fumes.
Quite a change from the bucolic setting on the Park.
The epitome of parkslope is a brownstone, not a grand limestone mansion. I presume you just don’t know what epitome means.
Wow, those are some small bedrooms in their new West Village/Tribeca condo – I’d expect better than 15×11′ master bedroom for my 7mil.
1:45 – I’m sure this has everything to do with neighborhood. It is easy to imagine that they’ve realized that they no longer want to deal with the long late night trips to Brooklyn when they’re going out every night in Manhattan. Manhattan is simply more convenient (and more fun, when money is no object). Sorry, but it’s true.
I’m sorry. Is that really an Alexander Calder sculpture? Looks just like one of those cute little Danish mobiles.
BTW, Alexander Calder is American.
“This isn’t a slope house, its right on the park This is a Park house, period.”
The name of the neighborhood is PARK SLOPE.
This house is the epitome of Park Slope and all of its grandeur.
Your comment makes you sound like you are on acid.

Gorgeous house, but other than the Calder mobile, the furnishings are BORING and UGLY. Too bad.
2.25 your point wwas that the peak was not 2005. But quoting 2003 and 2008 prices only, and completely missing out the 2005 price, your post is nonsense.
if you want to say, well it doesn’t matter, peak was 2005 but i’ve still made millions since 2003 – thats a different point.
