House of the Day: 47 Willow Street
If you don’t mind your townhouses on the skinny side, this new listing at 47 Willow Street might be a relatively inexpensive way to get your piece of the rock in Brooklyn Heights. (Yeah, we know, we’re not saying $2,400,000 is an insignificant amount of dough–just that it’s not a lot for a whole house…

(Yeah, we know, we’re not saying $2,400,000 is an insignificant amount of dough–just that it’s not a lot for a whole house in nice shape in The Heights.) The Second Empire brownstone has lots of beautiful original details (though the exposed brick on the garden level feels a little out of place). One upside of the house being narrow is that there’s no need for a supporting wall in the parlor floor so the staircase is open to the living area. Lovely!

Love most of the house.
(Hate the kitchen / dining area which has a dank cellar look with that exposed brick.).
Think it will sell at / above ask.
I was in the property yesterday. MM, that authentic old quality is authentic. The patina of time.
Can’t agree more with everything written above (well, except maybe for the starter townhouse comment).
I do note that the broker’s floorplan is slightly optimistic on the 5th floor – at least in the front, there’s only 1 dormer window in the mansard roof, not two. Minor quibble.
I would put the formal DR in the rear parlour. It can easily be serviced from the stairs that lead right down to the kitchen. Below I’d expand the kitchen so as to be able to eat at an island or a peninsula and have an informal TV room.
Me Likey! Very much. Right down to the crackled paint on the walls of the kitchen. Grand Army, you are right, it is something out of the pages of World of Interiors, one of my favorite magazines. It does have that authentic old quality, and I don’t even care if it’s manufactured, because it’s really well done. These people have great taste, and some really nice furnishings, too.
This one will be gone before you know it. At full price.
What a great starter townhouse!
yes, it is narrow but I do like the way it is decorated. The layout wors as well too, could be re-configured, but not a must….
I’m afraid I might create an embarrassing scene when they tried to make me leave after the open house.
Agree with Minard with regard to the piano. Sigh. It feels like stepping through a Wrinkle in Time.
Totally disagree with Brownie re exposed brick. While the kitchen looks outdated and in need of a serious facelift, I love the exposed brick down there. Cozy and perfect look for that floor. I hope the fireplaces work!
