House of the Day: 397 3rd Street
Oh, boy, this new listing at 397 3rd Street in Park Slope is so nice it almost makes us want to paint our wood floors white! As the listing astutely points out, the four-story brick-and-brownstone house is not over-designed; it is, however, charmingly preserved with just the right touch of modern. It’s also well-styled for sale, with just enough well-chosen pieces to look good but empty enough to be a blank canvas for the fantasies of the aspiring homeowner. All this good stuff don’t come cheap though: the asking price is $3,695,000.

Nomi, Unlike DIBS, you’re not an obnoxious tiny minded douchebag BrownstonerButtBoy and you’re probably intelligent enough to count the letters in your name. You also live in a better neighborhood. But you are an asshat.

The super rich buy $40-80MM townhouses… Making $600k a year and having about $2-3MM in liquid assets is NOT super rich by any stretch.”
I completely agree with this. Am I an obnoxious asshat as well?
“I cannot imagine anyone is moving to PS to live near the 7th ave commercial district.”
I can’t imagine anyone able to pay 3.6 million dollars for a house would be too concerned about living too far from 5th Ave. Chances are they’re balling at Del Posto eating the white truffle tasting menu, not standing around for two hours with the simpletons at Al Di La waiting for the privilege to eat some ravioli stuffed with mushy green peas.
rule of thumb, never kiss a snark in the dark regardless of how much eggnog.
personal preference is a factor in desirability and worth. There may be always someone willing to pay the market price, but there will also be someone who thinks that money is better spent elsewhere. The people who live between 8th and park are paying, i hope for great houses. If there paying a lot more to live near PP then imo its not worth the extra money if it were not a better house. I cannot imagine anyone is moving to PS to live near the 7th ave commercial district.
You do sound like your having fun, will join in that – Cheers!
pig three – I think you are conflating your personal preferences with market forces.
Now kiss me, you fool, before the eggnog wears off.
It could happen in any neighborhood, dude!
Funny how a thread about a renovated brownstone in Park Slope can devolve into people calling each other ‘asshat’ and ‘douchebag’
Boerumresident, first off, your estimates are pretty right on-point with what I was thinking. given pace of college tuition increases, it’s more like $1k per month per kid (24k). other than adding in some money for rainy day fd, you’re pretty close to what I had in mind so I’ll take back my “not even close” comment. but do think 90k to cover the rest doesn’t get one to the “NOT Concerned” level of peace of mind one would expect an urber rich person to have/feel.
net is I would upgrade 600k is indeed rich (vs my previous very well to do reference) but not uber rich
ANd you Clyde are just a douchebag troll. Sorry if you can’t begin to wrap your small brain around those numbers.
