House of the Day: Crazy in Crown Heights
This is one of the more insanely overpriced houses we’ve seen in a while. This is one of the more insanely overpriced houses we’ve seen in a while. While the original exterior is perfectly nice, $1.4 million for a three-story (basement doesn’t count in this case in our opinion) house in Crown Heights is pushing it. And if you consider dropped ceilings and linoleum floors to be “luxury” (as the ad calls the house), then this could be your lucky day. If, however, period details and preservation of capital is your thing, you may want to steer clear of President and Nostrand, where this house and its delusional broker sit waiting for a fool and his money.

I really hope that $14,000,000 price tag on the actual listing is a typo…
Ameraleed is 100% correct. That is a remarkable block. There you are one avenue from the President st. subway stop. I imagine there is a huge premium to own on this block. Wide, tree-lined street, many huge detached mansions with driveways and immaculate landscaping.
I’m going to look for it on my way home tonight.
Calm down Floor Expert…my mother had linoleum and yes, it’s easy to clean, but I think it’s ugly. And I’m entitled.
Comparing that photo with the Property shark building outlines on that block, I took a guess that this was 1323 President Street. C of O describes “doctors office and residence” which matches the description.
Building dimensions 28 ft x 51 ft
Lot dimensions 50 ft x 120.58 ft
That’s 4200 sf even if you don’t count the basement. In 2001 someone took a mortgage for $725k and did some renovations in 2003. And there is a mention of a tax lein.
what happened to the reno blog?
The exterior has hints of something interesting though, and quite unusual for New York. To be sure, the photo’s not great, but at first glance it almost looked as though it had a turn of the century/Arts and Crafts/Vienna Secessionist vibe going on. Am I crazy or do others see it too?
Agreed that the writing and choice of photos is very poor. But if the building is on President between New York and Brooklyn Ave’s then this is one of the great blocks of Brooklyn. The buildings are huge, detached and semi-detached, masonry-built, mansion-like houses. Looks to me like the dropped ceiling, linoleum floor and red chair are all in the basement, which is really just where grandma lives anyway. Look at the map on Propshark for 1298 President for a better feel for this block.
I want to duct tape someone to that red leather chair and beat the living sh*t out of then until they tell me where grandma’s pension checks are.
Some linoleum is very nice. The quality stuff is very attractive and easy to clean . . . especially in spill prone areas like the kitchen and bathroom.
Don’t knock what you don’t know!
