  1. boofer, my friend tripped on a tree root and endured massive concussion. So frigging what? Should pedestrians wear helmets? There’s plenty of evidence (just about 200 million cyclists world-over who ARE NOT brain damaged); single events don’t mean squat.

For that matter, he may have had the same injuries with a helmet. Bike helmets are good for small, low-impact accidents but not when you collide with a van.

  2. >Not wearing a helmet is self-destructive and crazy.

I give up. If even someone who *seems* reasonable as you something so idiotic, in spite of all I’ve tried to say, there’s no hope for reason to hold. Yes, I’m self-destructive and crazy, that’s why I’ve lived a reasonable long and very productive life. Sheesh.

  3. My close friend’s uncle was hit by a van while riding his bike in brooklyn last week. He sustained a massive head injury, had to have part of his frontal lobe removed, and is in a coma. He was not wearing a helmet.

  4. “95 percent of those riders prefer riding in bike lanes”

    Buncha pussies.

Actually it’s mostly that they’re kidding themselves if they think this makes riding significantly safer. The overwhelming majority of serious collisions happen at intersections when a motor vehicle and/or bike and/or pedestrian fails to yield right of way. Bike lane doesn’t do anything in that situation.

  5. Well you know, honestly I don’t care what anyone wears (tho’ my comment about helmets making cyclists the ‘other’ is true.) What I hate is all these blowhards who automatically have to mention the fact that (s)he saw cyclist(s) not wearing a helmet. It’s mentioned in news articles also.

Get over it. It’s not stupid to not wear one. It’s not stupid to wear one either, but I see red when I read the contrary.
