The bedroom looks on the small side but the kitchen and living area is very light and has lots of original detail. There’s also a common roof deck with killer views. Price: $549,000. Worth it?

I agree, I don’t think it’s sad.
And I DO think that there are a very small percentage of very rich banker types who want to make the move to Brooklyn and would only consider Brooklyn Heights, but I do not think that most people searching for a 1 bedroom in Brooklyn have singled out Brooklyn Heights as their one and only option.
Most people look in a swath of Brownstone Brooklyn so that they have some options.
Why is it sad that people who want Manhattan, and consider only BH in Brooklyn as a suitable alternative, don’t consider the rest of Brooklyn? They may be idiots (or not), but I don’t find that sad.
Anyway, the difference in the % of Manhattan dwellers who DO consider lot of Brooklyn neighborhoods has changed dramatically in the past 10 – 15 years, which is why Brooklyn is so hot now, and has certainly contributed to the rise in prices in that time.
beautiful building.
I guess we have different friends. I know no one who singles out one tiny Brownstone neighborhood and says THAT is the only place I’m looking. We aren’t talking about a Wall Streeter buying a 5 million dollar house, we are talking about a non-doorman 1 bedroom. People looking in that range still want value, and I don’t think this one has it.
This must have been a very early elevator building. It’s so tall!
There is nothing better than an original Victorian apartment. I’d have to see a floor plan though. Maybe this is half an original apartment? Looks like it could be a two bedroom, with that walk-in closet.
“Most people who are looking to make a move don’t single out one neighborhood, they have a list of neighborhoods to choose from. I’d say many who look at BH, also look in Park Slope and Carroll Gardens too. ”
Enough people do, which is why Brooklyn Heights is the most expensive neighborhood in the boro (not counting gravesend)
I would think a good deal of potential BH buyers view the nabe as a Manhattan alternative, and don’t really consider other neighborhoods in Brooklyn (sadly)
Strongly disagree with that opinion, 11217. As a recent buyer and with several couples/friends who have bought or are looking, NFW. It’s just too deep into Brooklyn, which doesn’t make sense when your work and half your social life is on the other side of the East River.
Very few people, DH.
