This co-op listing at 27 South Portland Avenue probably could have benefited from a little staging (or at least de-cluttering) but we suspect the fact that it’s a floor-through apartment with lots of original details on the premier block in Fort Greene will end up carrying the day. It’s currently being used by a family with a small child but would be a dream pad for a childless couple. And with an asking price of $699,000, neither person would have to be an investment banker either. There’s an open house this weekend on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Agree. Except the equivalent floor space in a tenement would be better-designed in terms of light, space, and air.
Yes, everyone in New York should live in a single family home. How urban and eco-friendly!
This went for 610k in late 2007; the one above it for 600k a couple of months later.

I hear ya. That’s why I am happy to have moved into an apartment that was designed from the get-go as an apartment.
Also, the kitchen needs to be redone. I do think the placement in the middle of the apartment rather than off to the side is fairly clever, however, since it maximizes the darkest part of the apartment.

You linked to 21 South Portland, while this thread is about 27.
Very cute and very tiny. 900 sf surely refers to the entire floor including stairwell. Partitioning off the arched space in one bedroom does not a true two bedroom make.
Knock off $200,000 or so, and this is a sweet apartment for two lawyers or one partner or a couple who recently sold an apartment in Manhattan and can pay for the whole thing in cash.
Well, I suppose a corporate lawyer with rich parents or an independently wealthy spouse might be able to pull this off. Legal aid attorneys need not apply, and obviously, two tenured public school teachers would need to look elsewhere despite the fact that the public has decided they make too much and receive undeserved benefits.
I echo Jaquar’s sentiment and attest, from personal experience, a family with merely one corporate lawyer cannot afford that apartment. To buy.
I’m sure we could rent it for about $2800 though. It or its equivalent, and the disparity is still something that should be considered.
