Co-op of the Day: 177 Columbia Heights, #14
This studio at 177 Columbia Heights in Brooklyn Heights has a couple of things really going for it: Location and those windows! On the other hand, some of the numbers might be working against it: Monthly maintenance of $799 (for a 400-square-foot apartment) and an asking price of $375,000. A little too rich for our blood, even if it is “Paris in New York,” as the listing claims.

Hahahahaha
It is expensive to maintain historic buildings properly. Did anyone think it was easy or cheap?
I can’t point you to anything but our building had to replace some ornamental work that was old but not original to the building – at great expense. Oy. Never want to live thru that again.
Brooklyn Heights was landmarked in 1965 – everything done before then was grandfathered in, so no issue with the 1920’s redo.
I think it looks like a charming studio, and with the high ceilings and great light from the large windows, it probably seems bigger than it really is.
And I like the kitchen — it’s a nice looking kitchen for a studio, and a good use of the available space. Interestingly enough, it looks like there has been some loft space built above the kitchen, but it’s not mentioned in the listing.
And did anyone notice the two different pictures of the facade? In Picture #4, the window trim is painted black, and it looks like they’ve chipped away at the facade at street level. In Picture #5, the window trim is painted white, and the street level facade is intact. Which is the more recent picture?
Paris is a lot cheaper.
Ringo – Really? Can you point me to LPC guidelines/requirements that speak to “forcing” a property owner to restore a building element that is not in violation of the landmarks code. Haven’t heard of such a requirement but am interested to learn more. Thanks.
ml, agreed that it is stunning. Kitchen is a nice size for a studio.
Yes, they an force replacement even if it wasn’t original.
I have no hate regarding the size of this kitchen.
