Co-op of the Day: 256 Bergen Street, #3F
We like the windows and the old floors in this corner one-bedroom at 256 Bergen Street in Boerum Hill, and otherwise it’s perfectly inoffensive (except for that partial dropped ceiling with recessed lighting!). The maintenance is also pretty low at $418 a month. The asking price is $349,000. Worth it? 256 Bergen Street, #3F [Halstead]…

I recall looking at a 1 bdrm apt. in this same building about 23 years ago. That co-op, which was on the 2nd floor, was nicely restored but definitely small. At the time, my atty. advised against purchase because the building had only a few units (and therefore greater repair/maint. costs to be borne by just a few owners). I also recall there was some question about the structural integrity of one of the walls.
The asking price at the time? $59,000.
looks like it is in good condition. i really would like to see a floorplan and am curious as to why the broker did not take a photograph of the bedroom. does it fit a queen/king sized bed?…i’m skeptical about the size.
epiphany – your comments suck.
Secretly, I think you should give us at least a bone, sizewise. Don’t make me go look at the listing to find out if this is a studio or a three bedroom.
BoerumHill:
Crazy Joe Gallo is rolling over in his grave hearing you talk about his old neighborhood (and headquarters on 51 President Street) like that!
I usually satisfy my tree craving deep in the Adirondack Park (after black fly season. of course). Outside a few lucky parts, trees are a novelty in New York City—a curious backdrop to the dizzying, ever-increasing traffic that makes life way worse here than it has to be.
BHillGuy — seem bit off…1st it is Bergen Street not Avenue and if live there I would think you would know that.
And to compare Bergen St traffic to Atlantic Avenue- with its 2 lanes in both directions of often speeding traffic, truck route and several bus lines (instead of the very infrequent one on bergen) makes me think you really don’t live there or have very different perspective of reality.
Epiphany –
Nevins south of Wycoff = no trees IIRC. Do you have a thing for Conklin Copper & Brass Co.?
I have no clue what you mean by ‘not bad’, but if you meant barren industrial wasteland, then I agree.
I’m weird that way. If I am choosing a walking route I like it to be beautiful and interesting to look at…as in how almost all the tree-lined streets in Boerum Hill – Brooklyn Heights – Carroll Gardens – Cobble Hill feel.
Guess I am missing out due to my lack of appreciation for the Gowanus warehouse district.
But maybe you meant something else by ‘not bad’.
😉
BoerumHill:
Nevins isn’t a bad walk in that direction, once you pass Wyckoff Houses.
BHillGuy:
Bad traffic is all those lazy people driving 15 blocks to the supermarket, laundromat or the pediatrician, when they could almost always easily walk, bike or take the train.
