This listing at 96 Schermerhorn Street in Brooklyn Heights could use better photos and is only for the young and agile given the precarious ladder to the bedroom, but the views and high-ceilings might be enough to catch the interest of some young whippersnapper. Of course, he’ll have to come up with 20 percent of the $315,000 asking price and be ready to pay the monthly maintenance of $868, which isn’t so bad considering it’s a doorman building.

  1. “Figure this studio would rent for $2,000”

That’s just a sad comment… this city is so fucked it’s not funny. And, yes, I’m throwing around the F-bomb. What of it? You wanna fight?

Yes, I was in the building and yes, the hallways that I walked down smelled of urine.

And for what it’s worth, Boerum Hill ends at State Street, not Schermerhorn. This building is squarely in downtown Brooklyn.

  3. “and i thought i was the only stoner on here.”

    Definitely not.

I have a feeling this place is suffering due to the very poor photos, but I bet it’s a lot nicer in person. Don’t mind the location, but it’s the maintenance on this one that’s the real killer.

  4. “Not a bad place – but I would kill myself with that ladder, and might make it more difficult to get laid.”

hmm…that’s actually a really good point. maybe you could get some sort of a trampoline?

  5. It looks like a very nice building to me from the outside. Well-maintained and clean. Bugs are much more likely in older wood-framed buildings such as brownstones or walk-ups. This is a fireproof concrete and steel skyscraper built back in the day when they were built like bank vaults.
The ladder in this apt should be replaced with a more graceful stair. The location in the Civic Center is not bad really, maybe a little dead at night, but most of Brooklyn is.
