This listing at 96 Schermerhorn Street in Brooklyn Heights could use better photos and is only for the young and agile given the precarious ladder to the bedroom, but the views and high-ceilings might be enough to catch the interest of some young whippersnapper. Of course, he’ll have to come up with 20 percent of the $315,000 asking price and be ready to pay the monthly maintenance of $868, which isn’t so bad considering it’s a doorman building.

I have lived in this building for more than a year, and it’s been a great place. The maintenance is high but worth it–two big, perfect elevators; a nice roof deck; a clean laundry room with inexpensive machines. The hallways are immaculate, with no urine smell, and there are no bedbugs or vermin.
I wouldn’t want that ladder, but you could replace it with stairs. My apartment used to have a ladder, but the former tenant put in an attractive, steep staircase in its place.
bklplebe… sad, right?
“Not a bad place – but I would kill myself with that ladder, and might make it more difficult to get laid.” (dirtyhipster)
Yeah, being dead limits the pool of those who want to have sex with you. True.
The expression “get laid” always makes me think of the smell of rotten eggs.
I would find it hard to believe this place rented for 500 bucks a month even in 1985.
“what sort of people who are only making $100k a year have 63k+ saved up just for a down payment?”
masochists who bought the idea of overpriced housing and are willing to compromise all other aspects of their lives.
unfortunately the gov has restarted subprime lending so everyone who buys now still buys in the bubble.
you are making 100K which is double the brooklyn median, 30% more than the manhattan median, and more than any median in any NYC zip code. But you can only afford this. What a joke!
“what sort of people who are only making $100k a year have 63k+ saved up just for a down payment?”
People who decide it’s a priority, and save up consistently for several years. In other words, a lot of us.

I like spaces like this, but the fact that the sqaure footage isn’t meantioned is pretty telling.
“Rob has a sense of humor, 11217 doesn’t. That about sums this up.”
Last I checked, this was a thread about an apartment for sale in Brooklyn, not an episode of My Life on the D-list.
