In an early 20th century Gothic-style apartment house designed by prolific architects Slee & Bryson, this two-bedroom co-op has details of the period and a sleek kitchen in a compact footprint. Located in the Brooklyn Heights Historic District at 115 Willow Street, the building replaced a neo-Colonial mansion.
Built by owners Willow Street Company in 1927, the six-story building opened with 32 units (now 39), according to a report of the time. A circa 1940 tax photo shows off the building’s Gothic-style window surrounds, multi-paned glass, castellated top, and whimsical chimneys. An early ad touts the building’s elevator, electrical refrigeration, and units comprising four rooms and a bathroom each.
Fitting that description, this unit also has high ceilings, wood floors, and picture rails. The entry is set into a broad alcove separated from the combination living room-dining room by a wide arch.
The recently renovated kitchen has sleek white cabinets, a dishwasher, and cork floor.
The two bedrooms are good size, with original moldings and baseboards. The updated white bathroom has a console sink, tub, and subway wall tile. There is plenty of storage with two built-ins and four closets, including a large walk-in one.
Additional storage is available in the building, which has shared laundry, bike storage, a live-in super, part-time doorman, and shared garden with picnic tables and barbecue grills.
The building requires at least 25 percent down, and the maintenance on this unit is $1,963 a month.
A by-appointment open house is set for Sunday, January 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Listed by Margaret A. Monsor and Catherine Leung of Brown Harris Stevens, the apartment is asking $1.15 million. What do you think?
